The Crown is a charming beamed country pub situated in a quiet country village approximately 2 miles outside the picturesque market town of Saffron Walden and a brisk ten minute walk away from Home Farm fishing lake and camping site.
An extensive home cooked menu is available every lunchtime alongside a lighter menu with sandwiches, baguettes and ploughmans. Our evening menu is available Tuesday-Saturday.[inclusive] Racked cask stillage is used for dispensing an excellent range of beers, with affordable house wines and hot drinks also available.
Our recently added separate dining area is proving to be very popular for business and club meetings as well as a great venue for birthday parties and other special occasions. Or, you could always dine 'al-fresco' on our covered patio area.
Why not break up the week by coming along to see us on a Wednesday night and listening to some great live jazz.
There are usually 4 Real Ales available from rack cask stillage behind the bar.
A selection from Adnams The Bitter [3.7] or Broadside[ 4.7] together with Woodfordes Wherry [3.8] and Greene King Abbot Ale [5.0]. At certain times changes may be made with alternative ales from local breweries.
In addition we serve Stella Artois & Carlsberg lagers, Guiness, and Aspalls cider. For the wine lover we stock a select range of wines from around the world. And finally we keep a traditional range of spirits and liqueurs.

Very disappointing. Came in for lunch at 2 pm on a Saturday and was turned away, despite there being plenty of tables and the opening hours were up to 3 pm. I had three hungry children with me so it was really unhelpful. They just either couldn’t be bothered to cook us lunch or didn’t want children in there. Either way they didn’t seem bothered at all about having our custom.
We came here to take my mum out for Sunday lunch as this is our new favourite place to take her. We've been here a handful of times over the past two years. Unfortunately my mum had a dizzy spell while we were seated at our table. The staff could not have been more helpful. The first aid responder was the chef and he came out of the kitchen straight away and sat with her the entire time until she felt better. Fortunately she recovered well and there were no further issues but the chef stayed with her until my partner had brought the car round for her and we had left. 'Kind' does not cover the treatment we received. We will definitely return. The staff are just so kind and caring.
Wow what a lovely place. Went to lunch with my son and daughter. Reasonable selection of drinks . The food was excellent plentiful portions, and the service was very good . The staff were very friendly and helpful. Will definately visit again
Came up from Southampton to visit family for our wedding anniversary 12/11/23 4 of us has the roast and I can say this restaurant will never get a bad review because the food was faultless the roast beef was so tender and plentiful the roast potatoes were just like I make at home the gravy was delicious. … our daughter had the wagu burger and a huge portion of lovely chips…. The staff were just fabulous. Wish we lived nearer it would be a weekly event that was by far the best Sunday lunch
Came here for a family get together as it was near to our elderly relative and half way for everyone else. Staff are great and the food lovely. It was my turn to cover the bill and keeping in mind it was for 6 people I was pleasantly surprised. Very reasonable!
