About us

Situated on the old medieval salt way route, this isolated inn has a history that can be traced back to the Elizabethan period, supplying shelter and refreshments for travellers crossing the hostile moors of the Pennines.

Enjoy a range of locally sources hand-pulled cask beers sourced from Acorn, Abbeydale and Bradfield breweries whilst sat in front of an open log fire, with traditional oak beams and nostalgic photographs that gives the bar a warm feeling of days gone by….

Lovely cosy pub, comfortable and clean. Dog friendly. Serves delicious high quality food. Staff friendly and efficient. Do not try to get there using Google as it sends you to the wrong place.

Lovely pub/hotel. I stayed here with my mother for one night on our way back home from Scotland. The staff were very welcoming and friendly and couldn’t do enough for you. We had a meal in the pub which was all homemade including the chips and was very reasonably priced for what we had. Everything came out fresh and piping hot. Our room was a family room on the ground floor with a double and single bed and en suite bathroom. It was spacious with a desk, tv, kettle and tea and coffee facilities. Breakfast was also lovely with a choice of cereal and a cooked breakfast aswell. Also tea or coffee, fresh juice and toast with jam, marmalade and butter on the table. For the price we paid it was an excellent selection and if I ever needed to stay here again I would.

Lovely place with amazing wrapping views of beautiful countryside. Cater for large parties if required and the food is very nice indeed. Staff attentive and professional at all times with a great atmosphere all round. Will always come here to meet with family

Met with a group of friends; the staff were great about reserving a few tables for us, putting up with a dozen or so people coming in and ordering some food and drinks on a Sunday at noon. Ordered at the bar, they brought out the food, cleaned up the tables, they didn't rush us out when we were finished eating. Great and professional. They treated me as an American visitor meeting with a a dozen "tough guy" bikers very graciously. Sophie and Lauren were wonderfully helpful at the bar and over the phone making recommendation for places to stay even when they were booked up.

OK. Organising a room was straightforward and staff very pleasant and understanding. (Over the phone). Room was basic. Two beds, desk, kettle, tea-making and coffee stuff, small limited channel TV, no phone, and wardrobe was a wall fitting with hangars. Walk-in shower had no shelves for toiletries. However, the room was really clean and bedding was adequate. Dinner choice was very good, and I learned that staff would be prepared to knock something up if the food you wanted was not listed on the menu. Parking is very good. Room at the front (main road side) and area at the rear was very spacious. Would we stay again? Probably not, but that shouldn't put you off giving it a try. Nothing springs to mind that's detrimental. Read this and make your own mind up.
