Fresh, home-cooked meals that don't cost the earth The Dog & Gun is great for all the family... and well behaved dogs!
Most of our suppliers are local to Yorkshire. From the eggs we use to the flowers on the bar – they’re all supplied by companies within a stone’s throw of our pub.
We pride ourselves on our community ties and what better way to support the local Yorkshire economy than to source all our produce and business services locally. Working with our suppliers and using local, seasonal foods is how our menu has evolved to be so varied, so tasty and such good value for money with a traditional flavour of Yorkshire – talking of which, have you tried Havercakes?.
Having called in for a drink we noticed that the food people were having looked really nice so we went ahead and booked a table. Great service to start with from I think the owner who was very helpful. We ordered our drinks and food from the very extensive menu. I couldn’t really decide due to the choices. In the end I went with the mushroom & Cheese pie which was Amazing the chips thou didn’t look like the ones we noticed on people plates when we came in to the pub. Mine were very crispy as if they had been heated up. My wife went with a Sunday Ham Roast. The roast potatoes were like my chips very crispy and hard to cut as if they head been re-heated a few times. Other than that the meat was great and so was the giant Yorkshire pudding. We had no checkback from anyone to see if everything was alright with the meals. Once we had finished that was it No one came to the table to clear the plates or ask if we wanted more drinks or a sweet! after 35 mins we decided to just get the bill! There was no asking if we enjoyed the meal or was everything OK? Nothing. Sorry but what started off great ended up shocking. The owner who served us was no where to be seen. We won’t be going back.
Just got back from a New Year Eves afternoon meal. Brilliant, food and service 10 out of 10. We were all stuffed, but ordered puddings to go and it was NO problem. Not too busy or quiet at this time atmosphere just right. Anita and her gang are still there, so can not fault anything. Would recommend this pub anytime. Never had a bad meal and have been going at least 20 years on NYE ,but calling regularly through out the year. Happy 2024 to all
Excellent service and great food. Loads of car parking. Very accommodating when we had a time mix up in our party (our fault) - happy to change time and look after us until others arrived - thank you so much. Service brilliant - efficient and friendly. Cheese, leek and mushroom pie absolutely delicious - will definitely be in again. Thanks so much for your help today.
Met friends there for a drink only. Good selection of gins. Friendly staff. It's a busy pub, so booking is advisable; especially for food. The decor is in keeping with the theme of dogs and hunting and dogs are welcome. A bit too dark inside for me, but that's a personal preference.
Highly recommended, dogs are most welcome and are given a bowl of water without us asking for our dogs. The food was delicious and the mango cheesecake is to due for. Staff very efficient and friendly.

The Kings is a friendly, homely pub. The main bar has two distinct areas: a smart carpeted room with high-backed settles, a fish tank and a real fire and a smaller games area with darts.

The first micro-pub in Cross Hills. With 5 ever changing cask ales and always a warm welcome. Proud to be a local CAMRA pub of the year 2018 finalist.
