The rooms are very luxurious, comfortable, and clean. The food they've served is absolutely organic and excellent! My only issue is the service. When I called City Gate Hotel that I'm near, the service lady on the phone gave me the wrong direction that unfortunately got me lost for quite some time and later admitted she doesn't know the area around city gates hotel. It was a total disaster and shows the lack of education. Overall, I recommend this hotel to everyone as the food, the room and the people are very friendly.
Our brief one evening stay with dinner and breakfast was far too short! All the staff are lovely and attentive and we hope our Scottie dog Maverick will feature in your Christmas memories/future promotions as he sat proudly on the red leather chair by the Christmas Tree. Five stars from us and we hope to return when the next opportunity arises to stay in the fabulous room 4 😀
Great central location for my overnight stay in Exeter. Bedroom and shower room were beautifully decorated and facilities were well thought out. The mini bar is very well stocked should you wish to use it and appropriate drinks glasses are provided in the room. Complimentary flapjacks and tipple were a lovely extra touch. Will certainly stay again when we're in Exeter next.
Hotel was easy to find and in a very central area, parking was only across the road as an extra bonus. Room was tidy, clean and comfortable, also a good size for the price paid. The decor was also lovely. Staff were helpful and informative. Overall it was a lovely place to stay and we'll be using them again next time we're in exeter
My wife and I booked a room here for our wedding night on the 22/7/23 at £214 for the night. At this price I expected a certain level of service however I was disappointed. I had dropped a bag off early in the day and then went to our wedding, we returned just after midnight and found that our hotel room door was left open which meant the bag (which contained valuables) I had left in their charge was not left secure. We then went to sleep and around 3am we're woken by a fire alarm. We both put towels on and headed to the front desk to see the concierge. There was no concierge, in fact there was no city gate hotel staff on site at all. The other guests and I tried to call the number for the on call staff behind the front desk but it just kept going to answer machine. Eventually the fire brigade turned up and after searching the building turned the alarm back off and we returned to our room. In the morning when it came to checking out the guests in front of us were given last night on the house when they checked out. I then spoke to the concierge and was informed I'd only receive a 50% refund for last night. I informed him I was not happy with the service I had received and wanted a full refund. After more negotiating he put me on the phone to the manager who proceeded to tell me about how they had done nothing wrong and they weren't required to staff the hotel at night (something I had expected at the price I paid) he eventually said he would have contact Young's who own the hotel to see if I could get my full refund and that he would email and call me to let me know during the week, I received no communication from him after this phone call. I would not recommend this hotel, the room may be nice but at the price I expect more from the staff and at least some empathy from the manager when things go wrong.
