About us

A renowned retreat in Buckinghamshire

De Vere Latimer Estate has an intriguing story to tell, with the first mention of a manor house at Latimer recorded as early as 1194 AD. The estate was then passed down through families of English nobility, before becoming a top secret centre for military intelligence during World War II, where it gained its name as one of Britain's most secret homes.

Today, the hotel has undergone a £7m refurbishment to add 21st-century comfort and style whilst complementing the original character of the property. You’ll find a blend of bold modern spaces and elegant suites that set the tone for memorable events and unforgettable weddings alike.

De Vere Latimer Estate is situated just 10 minutes’ drive from Junction 18 of the M25 and 5 minutes in a car or taxi to Chalfont & Latimer station from where the Metropolitan Line will take you into central London. We're also close to Heathrow and Luton airports – and just 20 minutes away from the world-famous Warner Bros. Studios Tour London – The Making of Harry Potter.

When you want to take some time out to unwind, our collection of bedrooms await, with many now fully-refurbished to reflect the revival of British heritage design. Or explore our peaceful formal gardens and 30 acres of grounds, with sweeping views of the Chess Valley. There's also a fully equipped gym and indoor swimming pool available daily for guests to use.

Free, superfast Wi-Fi with a maximum bandwidth of 1Gb is available throughout the hotel and up to 100m within the grounds.

Read our companion guide to discover what you can do in the local area.

Feel free to browse or download the De Vere book – newly updated for 2023.

Please note: the hotel will be closed for a private event from 12th - 19th May. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

First and foremost, the customer service from Charlotte; absolutely astounding. I honestly can’t commend this girl enough, she was passionate about her job and extremely friendly. The overall experience was ok, the rooms were small and the window didn’t let in any natural light or any good views. Maybe I had bad luck in the pick of the rooms. The whole experience was good.

Stayed for one night in January in a junior suite. Absolutely cannot knock the cleanliness and comfort of the room, it was lovely. It took some time to get hot water from the sink taps but otherwise suited us perfectly. Whilst every staff member was very friendly, we did have issues with service times. We only ordered one drink from the bar (which took a while, although it wasn't busy and there were three people behind the bar) and then went for dinner in the 1838 restaurant. The food was very, very good but we had to wait 40 minutes for two soda & limes and it was quite a wait for the food, which was disappointing. That said, I do think staff were aware of the delays and so provided some olives on the house which was a nice touch. Separately, whilst in hindsight I should have probably seen that the swimming pool was closed for refurbishment on the specific info page on their website, I wasn't provided information on that in any email correspondence. Appreciate this is likely a "once in a blue moon" situation but thought it would be worth sharing.

My husband booked us a night here as a surprise for me. It's a lovely hotel. Most of the staff were really friendly but we went to the bar before dinner and I stood at the bar for 15 minutes waiting to be served while 5 members of staff who were behind the bar ignored me. Only 1 of them was making a drink it was only when someone else came up to get served that one of them started to serve. We had 1 drink then went to the pub and had dinner there.

I’ve stayed here twice, first time round we had a fabulous evening. Dinner, exploring the grounds and surrounding area and then a good few hours at the bar enjoying the live music from the wedding. Then getting back to a comfy room was perfect. There were a few issues which were in the evening/morning the whole north wing was without hot water. This was being reflected on peoples bills, but the receptionist wouldn’t give us discount like the other guests. I followed this up with an email, I had a great response from Jasmine and received a 50% discount on another stay. I took up the offer and treated my daughter for her birthday! She had a fabulous time and couldn’t fault the stay second time round! I would definitely come back for another stay.

The Latimer Estates where gorgeous! I enjoyed getting to know the history behind the main house and the surrounding houses, thanks to a neighbor. The location is stunning and romantic. Perfect for the wedding we attended. However, you need a car or taxi to reach the estates. We had to get off several stops ahead of the end of line just to find a taxi to pick us up. However, leaving, the front desk will arrange one for you making the return trip much easier. The breakfast was very good and the drinks were always on point.
