About us

The Cross Inn and Old Barn Bar are Ness landmarks on the beautiful Isle of Lewis, having been enjoyed as a local community hub for decades. The Cross Inn was the first establishment outside of Stornoway to be granted a license for food with drinks, and was previously the local post office, butcher, shop and even a garage!

Cross Inn is the main house which has bed and breakfast and a restaurant with licensed bar. Just 4 miles from the Butt of Lewis, it is the perfect base to explore Ness, finish the Hebridean Way or catch a bite to eat and drink.

The Old Barn Bar is our public bar behind Cross Inn. It is an historic crofters barn that was converted into a pub with a large beer garden. The pub is dog and muddy boot friendly.

We host various events from pub quizzes to Ceildhs and can be booked for private functions. Keep an eye on our face book page for what's happening next!.

Our reservation, made days in advance, was cancelled 2h before we were supposed to arrive. On January the 1st, when all the shops are closed and theres nowhere you can get food from - hence the early booking. It's the first time I've ever experienced this kind of treatment. You should really learn to plan better, especially when you have tables prebooked.

Very informal with a cosy, friendly pub behind the inn itself. Nearby is a brilliant heritage centre with the best coffee in the islands!

We were fortunate enough to spend 2 nights here. I cannot praise the Cross Inn and its friendly staff enough. The room was lovely and as far from corporate as you can get. Decor and furnishings just gorgeous and lots of added extras, like USB ports in the lamps, fresh milk, make up remover flannels. Everything was fresh and clean. Breakfast hot and cold - delicious with mushrooms to die for! We ate and drank in the Old Barn Bar behind the Inn which was a great experience. Duncan and the rest of the staff attended all our needs. Great view over the moors and a great base for all the fantastic beaches inthe area. We will definitely return!!! Thanks 😊

Fantastic B&B, super comfy beds, cosy homily feeling with delicious foods. We instantly felt at ease as we were warmly welcomed by the team. Would highly recommend as a place to stay or eat when visiting the Butt of Lewis!

Lovely establishment, rooms were clean and well appointed. Staff were bending over backwards to be helpful and the small bar at the back of the property was charming. We had dinner as well and although it was the chef’s night off Duncan did a great job in whipping up tasty hot meals. Breakfast was basic but quite nice as well. Only negative it the rooms been a tad on the cool side, however equipped with extra blankets in the room it was not an issue. Would definitely return in future.
