About us

Common opened its doors on 23rd December 2004, then quickly closed them again and went on holiday, reopening on 7th January 2005

We have been plying our trade from Edge Street ever since, muddling through good times, bad times, indifferent times like a dysfunctional family, hopefully those of you that came with us had a good time and have no permanent scars.

Now we’ve opened a new chapter with the opening of the kestrel suite, we hope you all like it and we can continue to meet your needs in the years to come. Big love to all those who have helped us on our way, to our staff, past and present, artists, anyone who has ever put paintbrush to wall, and djs/promoters, even though you always break our kit. And last but not least our regulars, all of those who have propped up the bar over the years a big thank you, it wouldn’t be the same without you. Nice.

Since Common was renovated it's been going downhill. The beer selection was poor, very poor. One staff member was friendly but the others weren't particularly interested in their patrons. We were quite delighted at the menu and eager to try a slice each but unfortunately they didn't live up to expectation. The vegan mushroom slice was awful. It was crunchy like a cracker. The mushrooms were smaller and sliced thinner than my fingernail. The tomato drizzled across was thick like puree. We couldn't taste the cashew cream base because though the nutritional yeast was a nice touch, it overpowered the rest of the flavours. I was impressed with the gender neutral toilets but that was about it. I probably won't be back but it's probably more fun if you're a student or young adult.

We booked a table for three but been offered a very small table, they said there is no table available and this is the only one free… anyway, that’s why half of my pizza is literally over the edge of the table… waited for 30 mins for our food, pizza was good and service is alright. I personally won’t go back because I love my food on the table!

My wife and I decided to go for something to eat and drink. we come across this restaurant / bar . In the Northern Quarter in manchester down one of the lovely side roads outside was wooden tables & benches we decided on a pizza we want for the Original Sausage Material now the grant thing is you can order a full Pizza or a slice how good is that . so i go inside this spacious building with its wooden bar and open kitchen to the side of it and order are drinks way waiting for are pizza not to long a wait prices are reasonable and the staff are friendly its a busy place on a lovely sunny weekend with a diverse mix of people and a good atmosphere. well worth a visit. Note of information toilets are down stairs however the disabled toilet is on the ground floor level. Also dog friendly. Would I go back again yes most definitely

Great laid back vibe. Walk in and grab a table, then order at the bar. The tempeh and fries were excellent, as was the small fry up. Took around 30 minutes for food to arrive but was warned when ordering so not a problem. Excellent value as well. Recommended.

Awesome little restaurant/cafe/bar in the Northern Quarter! Went for brunch and had a fantastic hash and veggie English breakfast and saw they had some interesting gin and tonic menu items so came back at night for drinks! Great vibe and atmosphere both during the day and evening!
