Situated in Hope, in the heart of the Peak District, the 16th Century Inn owes its name to being an overnight stopping point on the old salt carrying route from Cheshire across the Pennines to Yorkshire.
If you are looking for a traditional country inn then you need look no further as the Cheshire Cheese Inn has lots to offer, such as traditional pub food produced where possible from a range of local suppliers. Very, very, very impressive selection of dishes. We ordered different dishes which were cooked to perfection and all served at the same time. Fresh, delicious. The portions were generous too. Definitely coming back. Highly recommended!
Really great place to stay and eat! We had several meals while staying in a room upstairs and I'd highly recommend everything we tried (fish, both pies, Sunday roasts). The room was good, had everything we needed and I particularly appreciated having hot chocolate sachets as well and coffee and tea available. Service was lovely and the whole place had great atmosphere and was well located for walks in the area. The breakfast available was also fantastic, such delicious food and a definitely ensured we had enough energy for the day!
Lovely little walkers’ pub ideally placed for Castleton and the surrounding areas. Fabulous food, atmosphere and excellent staff. Stayed 2 nights and the breakfast is excellent as are the evening meals. Make sure you’re hungry, the portions are big! Rooms are a bit tired but perfectly clean and comfy- it is a very old building after all.
Came here for lunch while out on the Peak District. Great location, the inn itself is well kept and the inside takes you back hundred years in the past. I really loved all the ambients. It was a great day so despite all the above we decided to eat outside in the garden and got to say, the food was amazing too. We were entertained from one of their roosters which was coming around our feet to mop up all our extra breadcrumbs. Was very cute. Definitely suggested.
Really nice pub with a great beer garden, very good prices. Only had drinks after my walk as needed the hydration on the hot day. There are horses just next door, and chickens roam around 😊. The staff were really nice and friendly, making sure to have a little talk with every visitor, very helpful.
