About us

A traditional pub near to John O'Groats in the far north of Scotland, the Village Inn offers a range of freshly cooked food, alongside real ale.

The pub has cut down on the number of meaty dishes on its menu, as the team believe there is a need to reduce intensive farming which can have negative environmental impact.

Water-saving measures are in place to ensure the venue conserves as much water as possible. Reducing water consumption also cuts down on energy used to filter, heat and pump water to and from venues and homes, something that is given little consideration but does produce emissions.

Conscious of contributing to landfill, The Village Inn Keiss has a strong recycling programme and sends as little to landfill as possible. The venue also recycles used cooking oil, has cut down on its heating use and installed energy efficient lighting to reduce electricity consumption.

Reducing waste was named by the WWF (World Wildlife Fund) as one of the top 10 actions people and businesses can take to lower their carbon footprint. By minimising what is thrown away and recycling as much as possible, The Village Inn is helping save the planet one step at a time.

The family-owned pub is the only one in the village, the nearest watering hole to John O'Groats, and houses accommodation next door for guests to spend the night.

We visit this place for first time and our experience was amazing. Cute, cosy and dog friendly pub with very kind staff. Food was very good to. We order fish&chips and monkfish scampi with chips . Both dishes were very very tasty and fish taste very good. Also order onion ring stack. Also good.Very nice way to socialize with local people and get some good recommendation for nc500. 2 drinks and 2 meals come to £45. Which is reasonable. #NC500

We just stopped at The Village inn Keiss on the road to John 0’ Groats, we rang to see if they were still serving and despite it being past kitchen closing time on a vile evening they said if we came now they’d serve us. Amazing food, reasonably priced and such a lovely warm welcome. The owner couldn’t have been nicer, giving us tips for the journey and insight into life there. Another lovely memory on this memorable journey ❤️

VISIT:-1. Vegan burgers superb and best ever tasted. Big meals VISIT:-2. Can't give 5 ***** please read reasons. REASON 1:- WAITRESS SERVICE 1* Waitress service in resturant has a lot to be desired. 2 young ladies who seemed like they didn't know what they were doing or what they were selling. They had no idea on drinks they had. Had to wait 75 minutes for a table even though there were several empty tables at the time. They advised us to book in future. Told them we were travelling through, so they found us a table in the end REASON 2:- FOOD 5 ***** EASY. Had garlic mushrooms as starter with sweet chilli instead of garlic mayo as the mayo not vegan. Best vegan burgers ever tasted, vegan salad dressing on side salad. onion ring tower lovely. Good prices. REASON 3:- BAR 5***** EASY. Brilliant, lively, loud. Felt like being in a proper traditional pub. Brilliant atmosphere. TV, pool table, dart board and jukebox. The actual bar very small though considering it covered the bar area and resturant. Prices good. Very very small vaping/smoking area outside but did have benches and table. Due to reason 1 being 1* and reasons 2 and 3 being 5***** overall star rating 3***.

Busy little village pub & no wonder, the foods fantastic & great value for money. I'm definitely going back to try other food. Forgot to take photos of the puddings.

The food was tasty with great portions. I enjoyed a local scallops special. There is no store in the area so it was fun that they had candy and soda 🥤 plus slushies that kids popped in for. The staff was friendly and helpful.
