The Bushel and Strike, country pub and eating house was originally built in 1854 as a brewery in the picturesque village of Ashwell, north Hertfordshire.
A few years down the line and the “Bushel” as it is affectionately known locally is a haven for those seeking great food, well-kept cask ales, fine wines and a genuine warm welcome.
Having taken on the running of the pub in November 2014 Lucy Thompson and Martin Nisbet have brought with them over 40 years’ experience in the hospitality, events and restaurant industry.
Went here for a friend's birthday party in their function room. Lovely pub fantastic atmosphere from the locals and attentive bar staff. Food provided for the party was lovely.
Was here for a private party in the old school room, the bar service was very good and there was plenty of food.
A very nice two course meal last night. Fresh and very tasty. The pub itself was clean, friendly and had a good atmosphere. Would certainly visit again.
You will never be disappointed by the food. Lovely beer garden, where you can sit as the church clock chimes and enjoy a decent pint whilst the ducks chatter around you. Great selection of drinks and main meals… one of our favourite pubs.
Such a lovely pub . Staff are so helpful and friendly . Very dog friendly and food was amazing. I had Halloumi burger and hubby had Pork Belly both were delicious
