About us

We’re big on warmth, low on fussiness: stripped wood floors, high bar stools, painted brickwork and comfy leather banquettes. Sup your pint beside our polished-oak bar or tuck yourself away in the Snug behind the frosted glass partition. You can hear yourself talk, concentrate on the crossword or nod off quietly in the corner.

A new kind of 'old' pub, The Broad Chare offers all the best bits of a traditional ale-house - well-kept beer, honest food, friendly company, good cheer - with a fresh, modern touch. Nothing fancy, nothing fussy, just genuine warmth and an open-hearted welcome. A proper pub.

One of those pubs you thought had disappeared (along with whistling milkmen and red telephone boxes), it's the result of a happy partnership between Terry Laybourne's 21 Hospitality Group and Live Theatre, one of the country's leading new writing theatres.

Lunch time snack. On Newcastles quayside. Whilst walking with our dogs and exploring the city, we came across this delightful pub. Got to be honest. We knew about it already but didn't know exactly where it was. We were booked into a nearby restaurant for the evening and just fancied a little snack to keep us going til then. They serve bar snacks downstairs and a main menu in the restaurant upstairs. As we had our furry friends with us, we ordered a couple of snacks in the bar. Scotch Egg £6.50 Monkfish cheeks with tartare sauce £6.50 They were absolutely delicious and filled a gap. The main menu looked so tempting, but we resisted and will have to return for a proper visit. As it says on the menu, proper pub, proper beer, proper food.

Delicious food in a authentic pub. As a starter I had Haggis on toast" and as a main course "Smoked Haddock fishcakes" The service was fast and friendly. I really enjoyed it

Really enjoyed the meal here. I like beer and the Goose IPA was well kept. The posters were a treat but I’d definitely have them again. Service was fairly prompt, busy Christmas party period so can’t complain. Food was delicious. I feel like I had value for money.

Wow, delicious! This was a really fun place to come as a non-brit - lots of things on the menu that I've never had! I got the sole and it was perfect - delicious buttery sauce, the mussels were phenomenal, mushrooms were amazing, salsify was outstanding. Only note is that boiled potatoes I thought was an underwhelming side to such an incredible dish, but it left me more room for the giant slab of fish😂 I had the potted shrimp appetizer which I thought was a bit fishy but was very nice. The pigs ear bar snack was also incredible. So tasty. My partner had the beet root starter which was very tasty- I don't care for beet, but the other pieces of the dish (especially the sheep's curd!!) were delicious and well balanced. He also had the blood pudding main, which I thought was delicious. Really nicely spiced. Overall delicious! We both really enjoyed our meals

The food was excellent, my grouse was cooked to perfection but I have to say my starter was beautiful. The drop of one star was for not having the wine we wanted from the menu. Service was very friendly though a little shaky but I put that down to possibly being some new staff members.
