About us

Steeped in history, the Border Minstrel pub is a contemporary gastropub nestled in the heart of High Gosforth Park, an area of 812 acres of woodland that also includes Newcastle Racecourse and Parklands Golf Course. Open 7 days a week, we showcase locally sourced produce from the North East of England and a range of drinks that includes a selection of traditional ales, craft beer and specially selected wines and spirits.

Named in honour of the winner of the 1927 Pitman’s Derby, the Border Minstrel was originally the west pavilion of Brandling House. The stately home, initially known as Gosforth House was completed in 1764. It was designed by architect, James Paine and owned by local businessman, Charles Brandling.

Usually good but ordered Diet Pepsi and received Pepsi. Told the barmaid who told me it was diet and didn’t offer to check to see if there was an issue with the pump. Usually great service but not today unfortunately.

We went for sunday lunch. Upon entering we were met by what i can only describe as one of the most frosty faced people ever. So miserable. The food was well…….it looked better than it tasted. Soggy roast veg and cold yorkshires. The mash is Smash. The meat was tasty but there was hardly any. This bar looks the part but someone needs a word with their staff and a change of chef. Wont eat there again unfortunately.

There were 14 of us in our party last Sunday and many of us had never been here for food or drinks. Considering the size of our party, our orders were taken and our meals were provided in a decent amount of time for all courses. The food was delicious and the portions were all a nice size. The customer service was spot on, no complaints about anything. We were all very happy with how the afternoon went and I certainly will be back again 🙂👏

Lovely pub inside the racecourse. It was quite small when inside but got a cosy atmosphere. Staff are friendly, and the food is nice, only had a snack. Little but disappointed that they didn't do lunch time sandwiches, just choose off the light bites. Dog friendly

Good selection of beers and real ales. Ordered the BLT @ £4.90. It was ok. White bread seemed a bit thin and lots if not too much lettuce. Also ordered chips, was ok, nothing special seems like from frozen. Relaxed atmosphere. Can sit indoors and outdoors. Table service only for indoors.
