Welcome to The Black Horse, a great family pub serving Wadworth ales and fantastic home cooked food. We're located on the outskirts of Exeter, near Clyst Honiton and Exeter Airport.
We have a fantastic Gluten Free options available for you, along with our main menu and we also serve breakfast and children's meals.
For private events, we have a function room available whether you require a space for a mid day meeting, or would like to host a private dinner.
In the summer enjoy eating and drinking outdoors on our fantastic patio area and soak up the sunshine.

An absolutely terrible meal! The food wasn't great tbh my children could have done better. we had our Christmas party there for SWAST and some of it was under cooked and some so over cooked you couldn't tell what it was.... The gravy was so salty it ruined everything. The sea bass meal I had was awful.... And all they said was no one else said it was bad 😂😂😂
After a lot of stress traveling to and from Guernsey we needed a drink while waiting for our lift home. Dartmoor Jail Ale was on and very well kept. My partner had Moretti. A tenner a round so not expensive but also not cheap. Overall it's good. Glad we came. We didn't stay for food so can't comment on that but portions looked good from what we saw of other people eating. 5 minutes drive from Exeter airport.
We held a wake in the summer of 2023 at the Black Horse Inn, to which about 60 people came and the whole day went very well. As a direct result, we also held our 30th wedding anniversary there in early September and we all enjoyed a fantastic time from start to finish. As was the case with the wake, we spoke with Leanne the manager beforehand, who organised everything for us to perfection. It was the hottest day of the year, so a lot of people spilled outside and all the many children present enjoyed themselves just as much as we adults did. The pub is big, with plenty of seating for everyone throughout, while the food we ordered was on time and beyond superb. The staff are all absolutely great, doggies are welcome and the pub has a warm, inviting atmosphere, so we couldn't be happier. I thoroughly recommend holding any and all events here, while there's also a dedicated function room if any guests require privacy.
Stopped off on the way travelling down to Cornwall. Service was fantastic and food enjoyable. We phoned up about an hour before we arrived and they were able to fit the 5 of us in. Food portions were a good size. We did not leave hungry. Service was speedy when they heard we had to still travel on to our final destination which we were grateful for.
Fantastic pub and restaurant. The service team were very attentive and the landlord was very welcoming. A great team of people working to make your visit very enjoyable. They have a nice variety of dishes and drinks on offer and every thing is well prepared. The kitchen team clearly care about what leaves the kitchen. We had a great evening and would highly recommend the Black Horse Inn.
