A late-night cocktail bar & restaurant in the heart of Spinningfields, Manchester!
In the 19th century, Spinningfields was described as a “den of iniquity, teeming with opium dens, gin palaces and alehouses”, an apt birthplace for the original Alchemist.
We now bring this bustling social hub into the 21st century with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking our year-round outdoor terrace, perfect for al-fresco dining. As a hive of activity since the industrial revolution, we invite all of Manchester’s worker bees to join us in our very own den of iniquity for a dazzling range of drinks and sumptuous selection of food.
Party of 5 pre-booked, no delays on being seated. Food and drinks reasonable price. Not a noisy environment so could chat amongst ourselves. Staff friendly and explained all menu options. Looking forward to a return visit.
Made an enquiry for a booking of 10 people within 2 hours of the booking time. The Alchemist confirmed the reservation even on a busy Saturday night near Christmas. We arrived slightly late due to bad traffic but they held the private space for us. They sent waiters over to take drinks orders and everyone had a great time. We were also roped off from the other parties which was great and we had our own space. Thank you, we will definitely be back!

I came as part my sister's 50th celebration on the 24/06/23 in the afternoon. The bar was really nicely presented and I loved the high ceilings and bar decorative arches. I love the industrial, almost steampunk look. The service was fantastic, the Bar lady served about four people at once, somehow remembering their orders! That's some skill. The area is generally not my scene but it was nice to visit a part of Manchester that I would never have thought of coming to previously. My favourite bar of the day .
Amazing place, spectacular effects around cocktails, and good quality of drinks. Recommended to get there for one of the smoky or molecular cocktails and share some appetisers. You can also add a dinner on top (which I had), that follow the show and the style of cocktails (none of the dishes was… conventional). Prices of cocktails is good for the quality that is delivered. Food a bit overpriced, but tasty and good quality of ingredients.
