Busy Friday lunch time (especially busy for time of year) Really nice refurbishment. Huge fish & chips!! Great value. Attentive service from Michael - Thank you again! Looking forward to next visit when in area. Large selection of drinks & (again reasonably priced)£3.80 for a pint of Lager not bad at all… Noticed Sky Sports available & plenty of private dining areas. Ideal for weekends I presume.. Excellent all round. Wish you all the success & we’ll definitely be back when in Whitley Bay Area. Wish I had a similar Tavern as my local !😁
Make sure you are really hungry when you visit. This is one pub restaurant we will never forget. The food was to die for and you get such huge portions. The steak and ale pie was incredible. Absolutely huge chunks and lots of them. The fish was perfectly cooked and hubby described it as big as a whale, it certainly looked it. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. You don't feel crowded or rushed and it has brilliant views over the bay. Fully wheelchair friendly with loads of room to get around the tables etc. We didn't see any children, but it's clear that they cater for them. We highly recommend this as a place to rest up and have a meal. You won't be disappointed.
Firstly I must out myself as a briardene fan. The tavern and galley's previous incarnati and was a regular visitor and was always impressed with the food despite some long waits when it was busy. Whilst the interior remodelling looks great, they have increased the number of tables by at least 10 by my estimation but there has not been the additional increase in staff, and from what I can tell there are no experienced hands at the moment. For example tables left with used plates and glasses for over 30 minutes despite staff coming past with meals for other tables but going back to the kitchen with empty hands and guests having to request staff clear a table so they can be seated. Another bugbear of mine is having to order food and drinks from the bar but with only 3-4 staff behind the bar and those staff also delivering drinks to some tables it means a longer than necessary wait at the bar. As you can see from the photos the food is well presented on tasteful crockery, however the food arrived at the same time with a reasonable wait but in a variety of temperatures, with all plates and bowls being cold, and the most painful experience of all the chips being tepid and soggy. I will give the tavern and galley the benefit of the doubt as it is boxing day and I always say try everything twice so hopefully won't be as disappointed on my next visit
Had a beautiful meal last night at the Tavern and Galley with my family. Hanging chicken kebab was delicious as were the deserts, we had the sticky toffee pudding and chocolate brownie. Parking was easy, staff were so helpful and the atmosphere was warm and friendly. Drinks prices were very competitive with other places in the area.
Just had a lovely family meal at the Tavern and Galley. Chaotic because we were 3 generations, with ages down to a just turned one year old. The staff coped with us brilliantly. The food was all lovely and arrived very quickly. I had a Sunday Roast which was great but 2 of the group had fish and chips and the fish was as large as 2 x fish as most restaurants. Highly recommended for food, drink and quality of staff!
