First ever service allowing people to get parcels delivered to their local
useyourlocal.com is the ground-breaking free new service that lets people have parcels delivered to their local pub.
The initiative is the brainchild of founder Stuart Mills:
"We have all faced the problem of wanting to order something while not being sure when we'll be home. useyourlocal.com solves this problem by allowing you to have the parcel sent to your local pub. The service also means an end to those dreaded slips telling us that the delivery arrived whilst we were out. For most people the local pub will be nearer to the sorting office with opening hours that suit all our busy lives."
With the number of pub closures in Britain reaching 52 a week, useyourlocal.com also helps pubs to take back their place at the heart of the community. Over 500 pubs across Britain have already signed up to useyourlocal.com, with more registering everyday. As well as providing a parcel collection point, useyourlocal.com's website is also a great way to find out what's happening down your local pub; from quiz nights to charity evenings to poker and pool tournaments. With over 50 pubs closing every week, the founders want to put pubs back into the heart of their local communities both virtually and in real life. The first consumer received a parcel using the service on Friday 31st July 2009 at the Gun Inn, Hyde. So far 500 pubs across the UK have signed up to the UseYourLocal to benefit from the free website and give their customers something a bit special. A former manager with Scottish & Newcastle, this new business is a joint venture between Stuart and his former employer. He won an internal Dragon's Den style competition, pitching the idea on the London Eye to the UK board. Stuart has always been an inventive lad, from writing to the Sunday Times aged 13 to let them know about his adjustable seatbelts for kids idea (they said it was a rubbish idea) to coming up with useyourlocal.com and help breathe some life back into pubs.
