A few hundred yards from Edinburgh Castle, Princes Street, St. Giles Cathedral and on the Royal Mile itself, the JollyJudge is delighted to welcome you to Scotland's capital city. A World Heritage Site, Edinburgh is, in our view, one of the most beautiful
The Jolly Judge sits at the foot of a vennel, at the centre of one of Edinburgh's historic Old Town, a mere 2 minutes walk from the Castle.
Low beamed ceilings, log fire and a tranquil atmosphere, this is Scottish hospitality at its best. Sample the wide range of malt whiskies, real ales and tempting bar lunches.
What is unique about the Jolly Judge is hard to define, but I don't think I have ever been in a pub quite like it.
It might be the relaxed atmosphere, the lack of music or the fact that it is a place where people just come to chat, catch up with friends or use as a base before discovering the many other attractions of Scotland's Capital.
Drop in and sample the range of drinks, or a light lunch. Check out the Products page for details of the beers, wines and whiskies on offer. The list will be added to (fairly) regularly.

Really enjoyed our trip to the Jolly Judge. When we walked it in was very crowded but the bartenders still walked us through our drink selections. We found some seating with a lovely couple in the back who allowed us to keep them company. Within about 20 minutes it cleared out immensely but we stayed on for another round. I really enjoyed the neighborhood feel of the place, despite it being right off of a main tourist street. They have a lovely outdoor seating area but it was too cold and rainy to take advantage. I bet in warmer weather it's wonderful.
Cozy place with friendly staff and very good drinks! Highlight the warm wine! Absolutely amazing! 😊
A perfect place on an important tourist route to the city. It seems to be a bar specialized in cider. The ones I actually drank were very good. It also seems to be a place frequented by local people, which makes everything more natural and interesting.
The Jolly Judge is one of the main reasons that I am always sad to leave Edinburgh. It feels homely, warm and safe. The team behind the bar are always wonderfully helpful and polite. Their range of drinks is incomparable to any other pub in Edinburgh. Go for the real cider, stay for everything else. We cannot wait to return. P.S Great olives.
A small pub inside a close. Cosy atmosphere, great selection of beers! Will definitely come back
