About us

Step back into another era at the 14th Century Farmers Arms Hotel. Both travellers and locals alike have enjoyed the warmth and the hospitality of the Farmers Arms Hotel since the 17th Century.

We pride ourselves on retaining many of the traditional features and combining them with the more modern day facilities guests expect. It is this blend of tradition and modernity that so many of our visitors enjoy and often return to.

“Overall it is no doubt the staff make the Farmers Arms a place where you feel relaxed and welcomed. The Chef is very good and should be recognised more for his standard of cooking the specials on the board the hake was great as was the braised lamb. Our room smelt of damp never a nice smell and some how the whole place needs aerating better, removing old smells. Most Windows seem locked !! This would\'ve be fit the whole ambiance if this could be resolved. The place was clean. Breakfast good though some fruit would be a nice extra. Would we go back probably yes because of the young but capable staff and the comfortable bed.”.

You MUST go here... Absolutely 💯 on assisting us when we couldn't travel to Millom in the heavy snow, abandoning the car by the main road, we enquired with a few other similarly stranded for a meal and board and to the staffs credit (lovely bar lady) they sorted a cosy single for me my partner 😀 the food was a Lamb Stew with chips and the Cider on tap was awesome...Great meal! people were friendly and helpful too...next day they opened at 12 noon, and we ate a hearty sliced roast tender Beef lunch with roasts and yorky pud, and cauliflower cheese, rustic veg and pumpkin mash all seperates and served hot, lovely gravy..anc horseradishcondiment....it's well worth going and we'll be stopping there more often in the future on our way to our place in Millom.... Well done, The Farmers Arms!

Amazing! What a beautiful pub. We sat outside in the sun looking at the beautiful mountains. Service very quick and very friendly. Food tasted amazing and it’s great to see the fresh grown veg and salad from their own veg garden on the plate. Chips also tasted unreal! Can highly recommended!

Brilliant pub. Convivial atmosphere. Excellent food. Caters for all tastes but what interested us, as veggies, was their bold and imaginative use of seasonal and locally produced veg. We were intrigued by the three course meal, with Swede in each course. I mean, we had to try that. It was fabulous! From swede tempura to candied swede and ricotta cappelleti in a Jerusalem artichoke sauce, and finally parsnip ice cream with swede biscotti. We also had the celeriac and artichoke soup and winter veg cobbler. Bravo, chef! It was creative and beautifully cooked and more importantly, delicious! In a desert of pubs serving 'safe' but vacuous veggie food, (there is more to life than mushroom risotto!) this is an oasis of unique and imaginative dishes. I want to go out and eat food that is like nothing I've had before. Well, you've come to the right place here. Yes, there are plenty of super tasty 'conventional' options too, but try something a bit different and you won't be disappointed! I could go on about the friendly staff, the cosy fire, the Jukebox and the excellent range of beers too!...but you can experience that yourselves. Thank you. We loved it!
