About us

New landlords John Murphy and Susan George reopened the doors of the Railway Hotel in August, following a lengthy period of restoration. The village pub has undergone a complete transformation, with extensive works being carried out both inside and out, offering guests every luxury on their doorstep.

The modifications were designed to provide all the warmth and cosiness of a traditional village pub alongside all the modern creature comforts that you would hope for. All the renovations have been carried out to be sympathetic towards the age and feel of the building, whilst still feeling fresh and modern – hopefully catering for everyone!

Catering for everyone is certainly the Railway Hotel’s motto. Located right in the centre of the village, John and Susan are keen to make sure that locals continue to feel welcome. They are keen for the pub to become the hub for village life once again, and are doing everything possible to get the Railway Hotel involved in community life. With village pubs closing fast and frequently, they are determined to make sure that the residents of West Horndon always have somewhere to come together.

Seems like an alright place but not very cozy. Staff were lovely but quite pricey. Not bad if you want a quick one out of the station but probably wouldn't spend all night down there. Could do with a bit of colour on the walls to make it nicer

Quick pint after work. Very accommodating and friendly staff. Loads of outdoor garden space and the football on the many tv's inside. Think it's only the second time I've come here in 10 years of working nearby but can't be drinking and driving.

Had an excellent Sunday lunch here. Generous portions on both adults and children's menu. Unfortunately no room for dessert on this occasion but will be back. I think the lady who served us was Mel and she was really nice. The other lady who was blonde was very welcoming too.

New owners took over this pub about a year or so ago now. Since then they have massively overhauled it. Lovely interior with an amazing array of railway memorabilia, great bear garden out the back and a good selection of drinks. Food is served for lunch and dinner - basic menu but decent quality. And there are cycle parks out the front now, so anyone fancying a pint and sarnie on a cycle ride is well accommodated here. Friendly staff too.
