About us

The Yew Tree (formally known as The Avon) was purchased by the village (The Avon Dassett Community Benefits Society) in June 2017 after an unsuccessful attempt by the previous owners to turn it into a house. The pub is now leased and operated by Forrest Inns Ltd, who are working alongside the society in bringing the village’s only pub back to life.

Forrest Inns Ltd is ran by Mr Steven Forrest and Mr Michael Mitcheson, both of whom served together in the Royal Military Police. Steven is the main operator with years of experience in running managed houses for Wetherspoons and Greene King. Michael spends the majority of his time up north with his family but is always on the phone lending support and bouncing ideas.

Both Steven and Michael want The Yew Tree to be the focal point in the village, where the locals and visitors to the village can meet, enjoy a meal or drink and chat. There will be a few services on offer to the area and there will also be many events coming up in the near future, so watch this space!.

Excellent food and service. We came for dinner on a Saturday evening as it was the closest pub to where we were staying. Very glad we did. The pub was packed when we arrived but the locals were welcoming (one helped advise on beer choice). We had the calamari and chicken wings to start. For the main course I had the rib-eye with stilton sauce. The steak was well cooked (correctly, not well done, obviously!) My wife had the sea bass and risotto. The lemon, pea & parmesan risotto was fantastically creamy. The service was excellent. The young waitress was friendly and knowledgeable. Not inexpensive but justified by the quality, cookery and service. We would visit again.

We enjoyed a stunning meal last night. The atmosphere is light, warm and friendly. The 2 young waitresses were super welcoming, caring and attentive. We had beautifully cooked fish and chips, properly cooked to a gorgeous golden brown colour, and a delicious teak and ale pie with mash, which was rich and really good quality. The ice cream was incredible! Surprisingly creamy and flavourful - try it! Oh, and there's a great selection of alcohol free beers, and the pricing of drinks and food is very reasonable. Not having eaten there before, my wife and I were expecting a 'simple pub dinner', but we what we experienced was 'truly delicious and delightful evening'. Highly recommended!

This is a proper village pub in a picturesque setting. The place itself is very cosy but with tasteful decor and a stove fireplace which was lit when we arrived. There is plenty of outdoor seating available too. The waitress who greeted us was really friendly and helpful and took the time to have a little chat with us. There's a good selection of beers on offer including Madri, Pravha and Purity Session IPA. We came for lunch so I ordered the meatball ciabatta sandwich which comes with chips. All very delicious but most difficult to eat...it's a big old sandwich that! I really liked the addition of the pesto and the fact that the bread comes from a local bakery👌 I felt like all the food was very affordable but really good quality stuff! Worth mentioning also that they are dog friendly. We really enjoyed our visit and agreed we'd go again soon!

We are local(ish) and had seen the Yew Tree whilst driving through the village a few weeks ago. It was my birthday yesterday and we decided to eat here in the evening. We chose a table outside as it was warm. Parking was easy due to the car park around the back. We saw our table immediately as there was a brightly painted bottle with 'Happy Birthday' on it (nice touch), and the service from then on in was excellent. All drinks, starters, mains and desert were delicious and excellently cooked and presented. Often, when you choose to sit outside for a meal, you can be 'forgotten' not at the Yew Tree! The young lady serving us was exceptional and had a great sense of (appropriate) humour, and nothing was too much trouble. I would recommend The Yew Tree for its excellent variety of drinks, delicious food, atmosphere, and brilliant service. Thank Yew for making my evening special. 💯
