Popped in here Sunday evening, found a lovely little spot. Great food, delivered quickly, piping hot and exactly as ordered. Pricing was really reasonable for York, and definitely worth a visit if you don’t want to pay normal York prices, this is definitely underrated and overlooked I think. Really pleased we found it… ticked all the boxes we were looking for, and a proper historic little spot too …. Definitely one to consider
Lovely medieval old pub, slanted roof's, crooked doorways, old wooden floors, windows slanted, arched entrance way into a lovely court yard. We had Christmas day here with the family, my wife booked the table with the help of John (manager) , he looked after every single detail for our time here, arranged for us to have a cosy corner, the food altered (for the kids), John's customer service is outstanding, we seriously all had the best Christmas ever thanks to John. The food was tip top, tasty exactly how we would want a big Christmas Roast. Zero complaints, the kids loved it.... If I could give more than 5⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I would... Lovely place and would definitely highly recommend to families, couple's..
Loved it. Just in the mood for a rustic pie, and there were obviously loads of choices in York but I'm certain we made the right choice. Steak and Ale pie with chips was delicious. Generous portion and reasonably priced, and didn'thave to wait long at all for it to be served. Good selection of drinks too.
This was a lovely pub with plenty of outdoor and indoor seating. Also it's extremely DOG friendly! I highly recommend the classic steak and ale pie along with a proper lager. Also the mac and cheese was UNBELIEVABLE. Pro-tip: Try to visit York during the week and not the weekend in the autumn. The restaurants and sights won't be too crowded.
Located in the heart of York, this is one of the oldest pubs in the city. Cozy place, super friendly staff, delicious food and great draught beers served. If you want to stop to restore yourself after a long walk through the city, this is the best place. It deserves 5 stars!
