Here at the Kings Head we strive to bring history back to life in our 400 year old building, one drink at a time.
Being one of the Uk's most haunted buildings, we draw inspiration from our spirits within our walls as well as what's on the bar.
The Ye Olde Kings Head was built in 1622, on foundations dating back to the early 1200's, boasting Elizabethan fireplaces and timber recovered from one of Admiral Lord Nelsons sunken ships, this inn has many stories to tell. During a refurbishment in the 1930's, a sword was discovered hidden under the floorboards of bedroom no.4. This can now be seen hanging proudly on the wall of the bar.

Incredibly friendly staff and a warm welcome. Fish and chips, and Caesar salad, all top notch. Could have done with leas of the haunted house theme as the atmosphere of the tavern decor etc is marvellous enough! Lucifer needn't be the patron of my lemon meringue pie. Great place. :)
Called in with our dogs late afternoon and glad we did its a place full of character fabulous staff and a lovely roaring fire. A must to visit if in Chester. Highly recommended.
An historical pub which has loads of character, an open fire place, a great playlist in the background and a cracking pint of Cruzcampo, happy days!
Really nice welcome when I popped in mid week at lunchtime (June 2023). I hadn't a clue it's haunted and they have their own YouTube channel and merch. Half a Carling £2.20.
A big thank you to Demi and the team for looking after us so well. We hosted my partners 45th birthday party which was Medieval themed, we hired the function room upstairs and used the throne room. Demi was excellent with communicating, nothing was too much to ask for. The food was excellent especially the Tempura prawns and Beef stew. Our barmen were attentive and even acted in character for the theme. I highly recommend having your next event here. We didn’t have any ghosts about but they were welcome to join 😁 5 stars to you guys! Thanks for looking after us. We will be back!
