A delightful 17th Century Coaching Inn located in the heart of the Peak District National Park offering Bed and Breakfast accommodation.
If you like the old, traditional pub atmosphere with a great selection of homemade meals and award winning, local cask ales whilst listening to the sounds of the 60’s then this family run freehouse is the place to stay for you.
The current owners, John and Karen McKeever have been established at the inn since 2006 and complete a long list of independent landlords dating back to 1746. Unlike most pubs that are tied to a chain or run by breweries you will not see the same selection of food and drink in any other establishment. Nor will you find games machines, a pool table or sky sports to spoil the ambience, just a cosy atmosphere with relaxed surroundings.
Ended up coming to castleton for a random night for some tea. Hadn't pre booked anywhere but managed to get a place by chance in Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese Inn. We have drank in here before but never eaten. I had the steak pie, my partner had a pizza. Both were extremely tasty. Portion size perfect. We also had the brownie dessert each, Really yummy! Atmosphere was so lovely, can tell alot of people in there are return visitors. I believe the owner was behind the bar through the night and she was lovely also. Everywhere clean and comforting. We both enjoyed ourselves and can't wait to go back.
Called in on a January Saturday night for a bite to eat. Was expecting it to be quiet but the pub was nicely bustling with people and had a lovely warm feeling about it. Despite being busy, a table was quickly found for us with quick, attentive service. The menu has a good, varied choice and we both ended up with different types of pie. Utterly delicious and the chips were to die for. We were in a rush so it was main course only but we had great food, service and it was good value and reasonably priced.
As new dog owners on the lookout for dog-friendly pubs, we visited a few weeks ago for the first time and were so pleased we did. The atmosphere is great, the staff are friendly and the food is delicious. We've been a few times since and is now our first port of call when we visit Castleton.
What a fantastic place...!! If you want a traditional inn with history and charm then look no further. Not only is the building and setting idyllic, the staff are phenomenal, the food is amazing making our whole stay well worthy of the 5 stars I have given.
Booked a single room for a cheeky quick one night get away to do some mountain biking over 2 days. Made to feel very welcome when I arrived at the pub and also decided to eat there in the evening. Had a good laugh with the lady serving and the food was as you would expect and hearty and the beer was good and very reasonably priced. Breakfast was excellent as was the service again. Having their own parking was also a nice perk and very flexible. Within easy walking distance of everything you need and a good start to the rides I completed. The single room was cozy and a bit quirky with the shower in the room and toilet down some steps round the corner, but it worked well. Would happily stay there again.
