Beautiful recently refurbished pub next to Sydenham Woods with a stunning new look. Serving quality ales, craft beers and homemade original British food.
Located in leafy Dulwich, just next to Sydenham Woods, the Wood House is finally open again following a major refurbishment. The pub has undergone a complete transformation and now features a beautiful new conservatory-style extension with a stunning new restaurant space. The bar has been restored to its original location at the front of the pub and a whole host of unique spaces have been created for people to enjoy, each celebrating the fact that the Wood House was once the home of Joseph Paxton, the esteemed architect of The Crystal Palace. Our vast garden has also been completely overhauled and now includes a new outside bar, ‘Paxton’s Potting Shed’, as well as a number of heated garden huts, perfect private hire spaces for small groups throughout the year.
We are a community local who love welcoming neighbours and visitors to the area to enjoy delicious food, great drinks, a wonderful atmosphere and friendly service. We specialise in Young's Award Winning Ales, craft beers, premium spirits and tasty bar snacks, as well as delicious seasonal British food like our Portwood Farm asparagus, served with a crispy hen’s egg and hollandaise sauce. Delicious!.
Amazing pub with a stunning huge canopy back area filled with gorgeous fire-pit tables. A great atmosphere and the smoked duck breast salad was delicious 😋 Chloe and Jess were amazing and made sure the wine kept coming. Will definitely be back soon 🍷🍷
We popped in here for a quick drink and a bite on a weekday lunch time expecting something quite nice and a little different. The pub itself was nice and clean and well set out, although they seemed to be a little short staffed which slowed the service down to a snails pace. It took about 20 mins to get a drink to the table and then out and then another 10 min before the order got taken. We each had a burger and it was nothing to shout home about. Just a bog standard burger. It was quite thick and juicy although the bun was cold and not toasted. It was nothing special - think the contents of a Big Mac, just gherkins and lettuce and the chips were just standard skin on fries. For £16.50 a piece we really expected more. Had an array of beers and soft drinks on offer but nothing which particularly wowed us. The garden is huge so would be good in the summer. The pub is only probably worth a visit if you have been on a walk nearby.
Nice treat after a dog walk or bike ride! A traditional pub worth stopping by. I’d suggest booking on a Sunday; it gets busy! Parts of the indoor space are dog friendly. The staff are nice and the selection of food and drink are good, albeit in the pricey side. This was an Oct visit so sitting outside on a warm day is wonderful.
The wood house is absolutely amazing! I’ve had both my baby shower and baby’s first birthday there and they were brilliant. Very accommodating and the space is great for venues. The food is tasty too so definitely a great recommendation for parties and casual dining. Can’t thank management enough for their hospitality!
First time visited here. Service was excellent and pleasant. Staff were very accommodating to our needs. The food was lovely. We had stater and main, The fish and chips was nice and fresh, the chicken wings was nicely cooked, The only downfall. The oil that cooked the food was stale it made me sick. Maybe change the oil a bit more frequent. Other than that the place is lovely. Would highly recommend this place.
