We recently found this place and wished we'd discovered it sooner. My wife and I arrived on a weekday just as it was opening at 12. Steeped in history, cosy, real fires (yes, it has more than one) and a lovely atmosphere. I ordered a sandwich which was so stuffed that I had to give dinner a miss later. Great value for money and great service. It wasn't long before the pub was full, and punters turned away, which pretty much says it all. Get there early!
A return visit left us thrilled that this lovely pub is back to winning form. We visited it in 2020, and frankly, it was dreadful. The place had fallen off a cliff. However, these new owners have really turned things around. Our only fault was it was cold in there. The open fire didn't seem to help much, but to give them credit, it was about -4 outside. The food was great, just like it used to be pre pandemic. We will return.
A really lovely find. The smell of the food and the real fireplace hits you as you walk in the door. The low ceiling and cozy nooks dotted throughout combined with the very traditional feel create an atmosphere that invites you to stay for hours if not days. The food itself was lovely and the service brought everything together to make what is at heart a quintessentially English pub, executed to perfection.
Great Vegan & vegetarian meals. Friendly staff & great value for money. We would definitely recommend.
We visited this lovely old world pub on a Sunday. We had made a reservation and I would highly recommend doing this as this pub is well known for its fabulous food. It's a lovely place to visit., full of old world charm and quirky style. The staff were lovely and friendly and the food and service was excellent
