About us

Attractive and lively village hostelry, originally three cottages but converted into a pub in the 1830s. The interior features a single large L-shaped room, where the low beamed ceiling in the older part contrasts with a high ceiling, with exposed rafters, in the airy, more recently modified section. Open mic night 2nd & 4th Wednesdays of month (except December); occasional live music and quiz nights (see Facebook page for latest information). Trent & Mersey Canal runs along edge of village, about 300yds distant. National Memorial Arboretum is 1 mile to east.

Excellent pub 5 minutes from canal if you’re boating. We went for lunch on a Friday and the pie was one of the best ever. Beer was very good with a selection of real ales in top condition. Very friendly staff and customers. It’s nice to be in a pub where non regulars are welcome

We’re here for the beer thanks to other reviewers! That said the wine was fine and the service was friendly and efficient, we will definitely call again on our way through next time.

Great dog friendly local pub. Meals are reasonably priced I had Steak pie which was very tasty although the pastry was soft and did not come with home made chips as you can see.

Went to this pub as its local to a member of the family to celebrate a birthday. The pub is very traditional and is full of warmth upon entering. This sets you up for a nice glass of beer to which they have lots. Hand pumped beer straight from the barrel what could be nicer. After a few drinks our meal came in a timely manner. The lady who served us was very pleasant and looked after our needs. The food itself was just like home cooking beautiful, and it didn't take long for that lot to disappear. If there is a downside you have to pay cash for your food not for the drinks which is a little odd I thought. The food prices are very reasonable though. However if you are ever passing this pub, pop in as you will enjoy.
