About us

As the only Timothy Taylors pub in Lancashire, a brewery founded on the principle of never accepting second best, our focus is on flavour.

With our small seasonal menu you know immediately that the ingredients are fresh and well chosen. Our menu changes regularly and it takes a great deal of knowledge, experience and focus to create food that while delighting in its simplicity, is also highly accomplished & beautifully done.

Really lucky to have this place so close. From arrival to leaving the staff were superb and so welcoming in a fun, yet highly professional way - there’s a knack to getting this right and all of them have mastered it. The setting is unpretentious and quality with attention paid to the things that make it classy and stand out above the rest. The food - some of the best I’ve ever eaten. Each course so imaginative and well put together with obvious skill and quality ingredients. Keep doing what you are doing. It was a pleasure to eat your food, drink your beer and watch the team operate yesterday; High performance if ever I’ve seen it.

Had fancied going to the WS for a while and finally found an excuse to be down from Edinburgh to pay it a visit and wasn't disappointed. There's one menus with 3 starters, 2 mains and 2 sweets and you go through the lot for £65 per head. Highlights on on our visit: tomato broth, beetroot ice-cream, halibut with lush hollandaise, squab pigeon and a fab champagne/yuyzu/pink grapefruit sorbet. As it's a Timothy Taylor pub you can enjoy the delights of Boltmaker and Landlord to your heart's content. Only small niggle was the lack of half bottles or carafes of wine and a limited selection by the glass - I'd expand the list. But this is just quibbling. Service was excellent from the friendly team. There is a decent hotel and a pub to stay within 1 mile or so. It's well worth a visit but make sure you book as it's small enough to be full on most enough. There's no question it's more than good enough.

I ate here recently with my wife. It was a surprise 58th Birthday treat for me. It was a proper treat! I’ve eaten at a lot of Michelin starred restaurants and this was as good if not better than most. The thing that marked this place out for me though was the quality of service. All the front of house team were so friendly, knowledgeable and informal, it made it such an enjoyable birthday meal. We live about 30 minutes away so we’ll definitely be back with friends.

Fantastic food, set menu, all very tasty. We’ve eaten at 2 star places and this was just as good. Nice simple decor. Warm welcome and friendly staff. My only critique is that the staff could be a little more attentive when the service gets busier, as in checking on drinks, how you’re getting on, etc
