Welcome to The White Bear Middlewich Privately run Free House in the centre of Middlewich • 4 rotating hand pulled ales • Beer garden and parking to the rear • Family friendly with children welcome at all times • Dogs welcome
The white Bear was built around 1625 and was one of the main coaching Inns for the salt town of
Middlewich, also known for its extensive canal network.
The pub takes its name from the popular pastime of bear baiting
in the area and the last bear associated with the pub was called Nell.
Middlewich also had a pub called the Black bear and it was rumoured that the 2 bears
would meet in the Bull ring with wagers taken on which one would win.

Had a great Pub lunch, some lovely beer, good prices. Have recommended it to family and friends.
A good pint of real ale. The food was OK but a little disappointed that the mushrooms on my chicken were cremated. Chicken breast was fine. A friend's scampi overcooked and our onion rings had lovely crispy batter but nearly raw onion. (Frying oil too hot?)
Great hometown pub with several different types of areas to sit both inside and out. The drinks and beer are cold, staff very friendly and food good.
Great dining experience from choice of food, friendly staff and welcoming atmosphere. Food hot and well presented, staff very helpful and happy to advise. Rooms warm and inviting and even on a Monday night a jolly ambience prevailed. Would visit again if in the vicinity.
We went here for dinner and found the food and service seemed good for the area. I was plesently suprised by the food quality, the variety and the nice presentation. Worth a visit if you're looking for somewhere to eat.
