Enjoyed a peaceful night's sleep at this pub park up. No food available on a Sunday night but I did have a very friendly welcome, a lager shandy, crisps and peanuts. Recommend a visit. Opposite the pub is the delightful old St. James' church set in the green with lovely gardens in front but unfortunately it's in need of some serious work as it's sinking into the ground and breaking apart. Such a shame for this 450+ years old church.

Brilliant pub ran by lovely people. Great place to stop by on a walk/cycle etc. Hope the kitchen can one day be resurrected as the food was amazing!

Perhaps it's just been taken over, I have no idea, but they DO NOT DO FOOD. Sadly this is a bit of a run down pub and, this lunchtime at least, not worth the effort of a visit. My bitter was awful, like a half pint of vinegar - if all you do is serve drinks then to clean your lines so you offer great tasting beer is a prerequisite if you wish to survive the coming recession. It's a pity, we were hoping we might find a little gem but all we found was a disappointment.

Really good white chocolate crème brûlée. Good service in a very old 14th century pub. Pork belly was very nice.

Definitely NOT reccommend! We visited at 7.30pm on the Saturday evening of a bank holiday weekend when you would expect the kitchen to be well stocked for a busy weekend; our party was 4 people. Having been directed by bar staff, we made our own way to find our reserved table in the dining area; the dining area was half full at that time. Two menus were already on the table, from which to make our choices. The selection on offer was on the light side, but for a small country pub, a reasonable selection of 'pub grub' classics. Unfortunately the server then appeared ... 'Sorry, but we only have one steak left and just two pork bellies, oh, and the (mushroom dish) is off as we are out of mushrooms.' A few moments later, the (embarrassed) server can back to tell us they were also out of salmon and chicken so out choices became somewhat limited. We chose 3 portions of 'warm breads with an olive oil and balsamic vinegar dip' to start. When eventually delivered after a long wait, most of the sliced ciabatta bread was no longer warm and the content of the dip pots was minimal / insufficient for the quantity of bread. While the balsamic vinegar was quite apparent, the olive oil was not (if indeed there was any at all). The wait for main course was long and inexplicable considering the hand full of diners remaining. The server appeared to advise that the 'chunky chips weren't available so they could only offer, 'skinny fries'; with no alternative, we agreed. Main course choices were 1 x pork belly, 2 x fish and chips and 1 x ham and eggs. They slowly emerged, 1 plate at a time but in fairness, the food was acceptably presented and warm, with reasonable size portions. The pork belly was 'okay' accompanied by a single potato, with under cooked (hard) Chantoney carrots and asparagus which was also under cooked. The ham, egg and chips was a reasonable meal with a large portion of ham and salad leaves, but unfortunately the meal (presumably the ham) was heavily salted causing me to have to drink copiously to clear the after taste. Our companions commented that the fish and chips were 'nice'. We followed up with 'sticky toffee pudding served with salted caramel ice cream'. Although not offered, one of our group requested custard and the kitchen kindly obliged. Again a long wait the server appeared ... 'We have no salted caramel ice cream.... Will vanilla be okay?' The puddings were delivered EXTREMELY hot. At a guess, they had been excessivelymicrowave heated, starting to caramelise and were falling apart. All in all, not a great dining experience but there were two saving graces: The young man serving us was polite, attentive and doing his best under difficult circumstances. We appropriately tipped to acknowledge his service Secondly, the total cost at £84 was fair for what was provided. In summary, this is NOT a venue where diners should expect a high quality dining experience.
