This superb family orientated pub is based in the up market village of Wetheral just mins from Carlisle.
The owner is very proud of his pub, and the meals are very good, using fresh local produce.
The pub as been the hub here in Wetheral since the start of the 19th century.

Good service, excellent food & friendly atmosphere.
Visited on a recommendation from a local. Friendly staff and dogs welcome which is always good. Beer was good but this place is tiny and crammed. We couldn't enjoy our drinks because of the volume of people shoving past trying to find seats or get to the bar. Nowhere to sit or even stand - it's possibly better in the summer when you can sit outside but is on a very busy road with lots of fast traffic.
I had some time to kill, fending off boredom I headed the the Wheatsheaf. What a wonderful pub! Friendly locals and excellent staff. I came in myself and the locals / regulars were quick to accept me into their company and chat away. Next time I’m in the village I’ll happily pop back in!
This is very much a village PUB rather than a restaurant. Not a place to go if you want a quiet meal. But a great place if you want to socialise.
Lovely pub. Friendly staff who greeted my dog with biscuits! The goats cheese starter was absolutely divine, easily a two person portion as far as starters go. The mushroom tortellini special of the day was also sublime. The veg curry was ok but the main thing that stood out for it was the onion chutney that came with it. The staff were also having a chat with a group (I assume locals) and it was so pleasant to hear their jokes/fun facts. Good parking space and plenty of outside seating too.
