If you’re looking for a real country pub experience in West Yorkshire, then pay a visit to Wakefield.
The Castle is a premium pub, bar, and restaurant with its very own garden, centrally located in the heart of the picturesque town of Wakefield.
Staff were friendly. Starters were fantastic. Waited far too long for our main course which was cold when it did arrived. Waiting staff disappeared for most of our visit and when they were in the dining room they kept their head down making it hard to get their attention. Ended up skipping dessert as the wait for table service was too long, and had to go to the bar to get the bill.
We had a ‘girl’s catch up’ on a Saturday evening and the Castle is my ‘go to’ for a calmer kind of place, where you can relax, chat and sit by the log fire. The atmosphere was lovely. The manager was very attentive and enthusiastic….the rest of the staff were new I think, and a bit slow, but everyone’s got to start somewhere and the manager was very supportive and encouraging towards them. We did have a couple of food issues, which were dealt with very well. The food isn’t great at the minute and it’s pricey, for what you get. We were slightly underwhelmed. There wasn’t one: ‘Oooh…..that looks nice.’ from any of us. It was a bit ‘meh.’ and very beige, to sum it up. We did find a member of staff to make us a baby guinness to finish the night off though…they were delicious, and so was the red wine. It’s a lovely place….gorgeous decor, coal fires, lovely atmosphere, free parking, great drinks…they’ve just got to watch the food.
First time going the castle, I must say the staff and management were nice and friendly, the food was amazing and the drinks were top notch
We had a great family meal for Father’s Day, the food was delicious and we couldn’t fault it. Serve was outstanding, one of the staff members even offered to walk our baby in the push chair to get him to sleep while we could enjoy the mains when they came out. 4th time here and we will definitely be coming again.
Lovely warm and welcoming place. Staff really helpful and friendly. Atmosphere was great and we really enjoyed the food. First time visiting due to receiving a food voucher but will definitely come again! Free parking as well which is always handy.
