About us

The Gaping Goose is a quaint traditional English pub which serves an excellent selection of real cask ales and lagers.

It was traditionally a coaching inn dating back to some 300 years and it is rumoured that Dick Turpin frequently stayed overnight on his way to York.

We offer a wide range of award-winning cask ales.

Tetleys Bitter, Theakstons and Wainwrights are our permanent cask ales with 2 other guest ales being changed and served each week.

We can now boast to having Birra Morretti, along with serving Fosters, Guinness, Strongbow, Kronenburg and John Smith's as well as a good selection of wines and spirits.

Local, award-winning Wilsons Pork Pies are available each lunchtime along with a wide selection of hot drinks.

We were going somewhere close by for food so dropped into the Gaping Goose for a couple of drinks. It's been a real long time since I've been to the Goose, but it was great. There was a nice Sunday afternoon crowd in, lots of folks just stopped off for a quencher Two ladies were on duty and they were really good. We got a great pint pulled and the service was excellent. All was really good, we shall return before too long. Ps I have awarded five stars for food when I don't think they serve any, but I'm not awarding zero stars.

Fantastic pub with a very friendly atmosphere. The service at the bar is fantastic. Lots of hard-working, friendly, super-efficient staff. It's probably the quickest I have ever been served and paid anywhere!

This pub has definitely improved with the new management. A really good out of town pub well supported by the local community. On my last visit four cask ales on offer and the one sampled was in excellent condition and well served by friendly attentive staff.

Passing customer, was lovely to be met by Jo, the landlady, so warm and friendly. Pub had a great feel to it, real ale was amazing, and Jo even brought me a chocolate real ale to try. Just a great feel about the place, will definitely call in again
