Friendly staff. Great breakfasts. We had a bit of trouble with our bath in the room we booked so we were upgraded to an executive suite with more space and outside seating. Customer service at its finest. The spa is also nice. Will definitely be back.

My partner and I both got a massage at the same time, he got asked first and I still had to wait 10 minute until my masseuse finally called me in. the face and body treatment was supposed to last 50 minutes. she started with my back and after 10 minute she already started the facial. in between creams I heard ticking of a phone?! I was extremely uncomfortable (which is not okay for a massage) It was clear she was not feeling like giving me a massage and when she did massage me it was more stroking and lightly touching me like she was allergic to me. When she said she was done she immediately left the room, I changed again and moved into the waiting room to find out my partners massage was not even finished yet. My total treatment was probably 30 minute long and a very uncomfortable experience. Given we were only there for 24 hours this really ruined the experience. Also I paid for the executive suite upgrade and there was no pressure in the shower. Dinner was served cold and had clearly been sat out for a long time. Breakfast was nice though and the setting is lovely.

I was there for the spa and lunch and didn't stay. I found all the staff to be very polite and helpful. The spa itself is good; on the small side but certainly nice for a couple of hours relaxation. I also had a spa treatment which was excellent. Nice lunch too, in the restaurant overlooking the lake.

We stayed here last year. One of the worst places we've ever stayed. The place is run down and needs a good refurbishment throughout. The cabins feel like you're on the set of a zombie apocalypse movie. They're covered in moss, they smell fusty like an old folks home, the colours of the walls are bland, there's mould throughout and the beds are ridiculously uncomfortable. We left the following morning and checked out early, go spend your money in one of the better hotels in York. I'd rather sleep in my car than stay here again.

Booked as part of a birthday gift and a weekend away, the main hotel, bar and reception all OK with friendly staff and the unique atmosphere of the wooden log building, which was different. The staff were friendly and helpful, the restaurant which looked over the lake was nice and the food was good both evening meal and breakfast. Where this hotel seriously let's itself down is the rooms. It was like stopping back into the 80s. Mixer tap shower with a curtain, it was hard to stand in due to the roof line. An old brown bathroom suite, cracked and scratched which all needed a good clean, very poor. The room had threadbare carpet and it was really hot, had to fight with the windows to open them. Each time you moved in the bed you could here the springs. The decor needed attention too with marks on the walls. So the room and bathroom was not good at all that we stayed in.
