About us

Being a free house we pride ourselves on the quality of our real ale and concentrate on local brewerys such as Harveys of Sussex, Hammerpot brewery and Dark Star to name but a few, we have just started stocking a local farmhouse cider from The Black Pig Orchard in Danehill as well as offering award winning English sparkling wines from the Bluebell vineyard just up the road.

The pub is within easy distance of the towns East Grinstead and Haywards Heath and only 20 minutes from Gatwick Airport.

Best quality pub lunch I have eaten in a long time. I had the pork, leek and whole grain mustard pie with mash, cabbage and gravy and it was delicious. Apple crumble also hit the spot. Lovely pub with attentive, friendly service. Would highly recommended and will definitely be back. ❤️❤️❤️

Excellent food in a beautiful old pub. I find many local pubs in Sussex rest on their location and other things let them down, but not here! The menu is seasonal with excellent produce and far above what people might think of gastro pub cuisine. Highly recommend for all the family. We went with 2 older children and they kindly accommodated their tastes as both are vegetarian. Thank you to the lovely friendly staff. We will be back for the Sunday roast!

Overview: Visited the Coach and Horses for a midweek pub lunch. Situated in the countryside of Ashdown Forest. A lovely pub with a garden and small park area for children. Dog friendy and our dog was allowed in the main bar area. The staff are extremely friendly and made a fuss of our cocker spaniel. Food The food ordered did take some time coming to the table, about 25-30 minutes. Seemingly as the food was being cooked fresh. Unfortunately the burger ordered was completely undercooked so it was inedible. The meat was completely raw in the middle so it was fed to our dog. I ordered the venision as it was described on the menu as locally sourced. Although it came out well presented unfortunately it was well overcooked. It was a shame as we were planning to have dessert but due to the main meals we chose to leave. It wasn't busy at all, so I don't really know why the food came out as it did.

This is the most beautiful, family run country pub with plenty of seating outside; the garden has lovely views and you really are in the countryside! The food was tasty, proper pork sausages and a decent bit of fish. The traditional pub has been standing since 1847, it’s intimate and quirky. For a Saturday night it wasn’t too busy which was a bonus. Would love to revisit for a Sunday roast.
