Just spent a week at The Cowdray Arms staying overnight and dining whilst working in the area. The staff were great and could not do enough to help me with anything I needed, the locals were all really friendly and I had a good natter with a few of them over a pint. The food was exceptional both for breakfast or evening meal. The beef stew and dumplings was especially good. The room had everything I needed and more, great coffee and tea facilities, shower was fantastic and you could tell the rooms had been taken care of as mine was in immaculate condition. My bed was really comfortable, so much so I was almost late one morning. I will definitely stay here again if I’m ever back in the area.
Recently had the Cowdray Big Full English Breakfast, excellent. A large breakfast (almost finished it!) well cooked. What a full English should be. Staff were friendly. Previously had their mixed grill at lunchtime also very good. Look forward to next visit
Please sign an agreement before booking an event here with the Co owner. All agreed arrangements were changed on the day (causing unnecessary stress at a very sensitive time) Food agreed and paid for was not served. According to the Co owner, who was not present, bar staff asked a random guest (mourner) if they should serve brownies and were told not to bother as they were going soon. They never spoke to the person who booked and paid for the event. I had to buy more food behind the bar to fill the table The food that was served was lovely. The agreed times were changed by 40 mins and mourners were asked to leave and go to the bar area, some had arrived later due to work commitments and just left the pub confused. We were tapped on the shoulder in the bar area and told to take the flowers with us. The Co owner assured us it was not a problem for them to dispose of the flowers after the Wake. Communication between management and bar staff was lacking. When I complained in an email I received a very insensitive reply and refusal to refund the missing food. She later replied- offering a Good will of £15…a complete insult. Please just donate the refund to charity!
I used The Cowdray Arms for my husbands wake. Not an easy task finding somewhere in December. They were fantastic throughout. Helped guide me through ideas and buffet choices. Brilliant on the day, enough staff and very attentive without being intrusive on the day. Can thoroughly recommend them.
We stayed here for three nights in November 2023. We used it as a base when visiting one of our family. Room very warm and comfortable. Restaurant menu is good with a range of meals to chose from. Breakfasts were also very good as well. Watch out for opening hours of the restaurant and it is a rural pub location. Definitely stay here again.
