About us

Formerly known as the King's Head, The Hillside Inn started life in the early 1800's, when many of our guests were coach travellers going between London and Brighton. Although the building wasn't used as a pub for half of the 19th Century, by the 20th Century The Hillside Inn was welcoming guests from all over West Sussex.

A country pub oozing rural charm and rustic character, our picturesque surroundings provide the perfect backdrop for savouring the hearty, seasonal pub-food on our menu, and the carefully nurtured cask ales and fine wines gracing our bar.

Whether you are planning dinner with friends or Sunday lunch with family, book a table online and enjoy some quality time with those you love the most.

We had the NYE three course meal and really enjoyed what we had. When it got to the pudding we decided to have them to go. Unfortunately upon returning home and trying the apple and blackberry crumble, we noticed it was very burnt and had been flipped over to hide it. You can’t really taste the food due to it being so heavy burnt. A little disappointed as I’m sure this would not have happened if we were eating in. Was a real let down from the rest of the food which was lovely. For how much we paid it’s not really acceptable.

Was taken here for a surprise 70th birthday treat. From the moment I arrived I was made to feel very special. The ambience, decor, service, attention, meal and welcome was superb. Robyn and her colleague made sure we had a visit to remember and I shall. I can really recommend this venue, food and staff. Their dog-friendly too.

Absolutely fantastic pub, visited here with my friend on the 24th October. I believe it was Robin and Mary that served is? I’m sorry if I’m mistaken. Had the steak and changed a few of the sides to what I wanted and the service was excellent and very accommodating! Highly recommended, will be back again! Thank you!

Appetizers: melting Camembert and sticky chicken were delicious. I would pass on the mushrooms. For mains: the Aubergine parmigiana was the stand out, margherita pizza was ok. Pot pie was huge and good for sharing.

Excellent food, great service and lovely pub. Stopped off for an afternoon bite to eat. Had a beetroot wrap and onion rings with a side salad. All were perfect and very tasty. Service was very good and attentive. Pub is really nice and has a cozy feel to it. Well worth a visit.
