Located in the heart of the South Downs National Park, we are a venue of destination serving locally sourced, seasonal food in a wonderful, welcoming setting.
Located in the village of West Dean, The Dean Inn is the heart of the village and has been for the last 200 years. It is a perfect place to eat, drink and sleep.
As well as lunch and evening service, we also welcome functions and larger parties. Our restaurant and conservatory area can hold up to 150 people. If it’s the outside area you are interested in, we have a lovely courtyard area in which you can enjoy a drink on in the summer.
We enjoy an enviable location in the River Lavant valley, ideal for walking, cycling, visiting local landmarks and relaxing. The famous Goodwood Estate is just 10 minutes away as is historic town of Chichester with its beautiful church, Festival Theatre and shopping.

1st time there. Very well looked after and excellent meal. Can do nice walk up centurion way from Chichester (bus back!!)
Popped in for a meal with family. The food was very reasonably priced and well cooked although there was not a lot of choice on the menu. The pub is comfy and full of character. Lots of parking. Not too busy when we went. Dog friendly and staff were very accommodating and cheerful. Definitely recommend for a visit
We had a recent stay in the area and having been let down by a poor restaurant menu where we were staying (I am gluten intolerant) we Googled the closest pub and up came The Selsey Arms. We enjoyed a delicious meal here two evenings running, going back the second night having enjoyed the first so much. I had a pick of several gluten free options, including proper fish and chips, fried in a separate fryer. The second night I had a wonderful game bourginon, which my husband had had the night before. The welcome we received was very friendly and eating in the bar the second night we felt almost like locals! We would definitely go back if in the area.
I met 2 friends and their dogs at the Selsey Arms for lunch. (So can't comment on rooms) Very friendly welcome. 2 open fires so lovley and warm. Place is very well decorated and looks like it can cope with larger parties. We all ordered the same meal. Roasted pork belly. I must say we all thought it was exceptional one of the best pub meals I have had in a long time. Every bit of it was delicious. Even the carrots 🥕 and I don't normally eat them. Well worth a visit and we all, most definitely would go again.
My wife and I stayed for just one night. The whole experience was superb. We had a warm welcome when we arrived. A really comfortable room with bath and shower over. Good beers and an excellent evening meal. Breakfast was equally good. West Dean is such a beautiful village. I lived there in the early 70s and it was great to see the gardens, the church and my old school again. Thanks to all at the Selsey Arms...not least of all that cute labrador :)
