Awful Christmas day meal here. The younger waiting staff overwhelmed & undertrained. (Hats off to blonde reception lady & checked trousers waiter who worked very hard to make up for it) The 5 course meal was largely mushy or dried out, with the starters, desserts & veggie option admittedly brought-in defrosted ready meals. Hence, dietary requests on booking were not catered for & we had to send a childs meal back twice. We found ourselves clearing our own table of plates/glasses to make room. Being served watery instant coffee (we were told they are too busy to make coffee at Xmas) when our food bill was £500 felt pretty off, as did having to ask 2 waiters for milk, sugar, spoons & saucers to go with the tea. We were told 'Good luck finding him' when asking to share feedback with the manager, Phil - who never appeared. As a final smack in the face, 3 of our party are now unwell at home. Strongly suspect it's due to the mushy seafood... My family have come here for Christmas a number of times over the past 35 years, but never again.
I visited for Xmas dinner. To say i was dissapointed would be an understatement. Apon arrival it had a foul smell of Onion/garlic smell all around the pub and restaurant area. We were seated, then given that nasty soup which was the smell, it made me and my partner feel sick. We gave it them back immediately. The starter was poor tasting salmon and prawns not tiger prawns! The main was nice tasting beef, poor selection of veg carrots and sprouts only it was dismal. The desert was a trio of id say asdas own mini trifle, a slither of cheesecake and dollop of chocolate brownie which had no biscuit taste in it. Just mush! A 1 out of 5 today. Visited in the past and it had been alright for value. Today was a far cry from that. Service was okay and that was all.
I have visited a couple of times with friends and family during summer time. Didn't stay at the hotel but had a few drinks and food in their back garden area. Staff were very friendly. The first time I called them to make a reservation they had a big birthday party and a wedding going on but they still managed to find a table for me and family and it was great. Food very tasty, on the pricey side but we'll worth it. Enjoyed it very much and so did my family and friends. I will definitely visit again.
Unbelievably good carvery today. Huge plates laden with the tenderest meats and delicious veg. We were a table of 7 and we all agreed one of if not the best roast we've ever had.
Quaint is the word. I enjoyed my stay very much and will return. Definitely good value. Very friendly staff. Beware of a very rude 'regular', that despite frequenting the bar every night of the week, clearly thinks it amusing to loudly bad mouth the place, and also writes his own poor reviews - I was astonished his behaviour was tolerated by management - please take no notice.
