About us

The Garden House is a handsome pub which sits within three early 19th century homes in the attractive Edgbaston area of Birmingham. Within half a mile of this charming inn lie the Grade II listed tower of Perrot’s Folly and the Victorian tower of Edgbaston Waterworks. The former was reputedly built so that John Perrott, a local landowner had a vantage point to spy on his unfaithful wife, and the two towers together are believed to have inspired the Two Towers of J.R.R Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings novels, with the author growing up in the shadow of these two impressive Edgbaston landmarks. Edgbaston is also home to the picturesque Birmingham Botanical Gardens & Glasshouses was opened in 1832 by J. C. Loudon, the preeminent garden planner of his day. The array of plants on offer is magnificent, including a unique hybrid fern tree which has stood here for over 140 years. A wander through attractive Edgbaston will also lead you to the legendary Edgbaston Cricket Ground, and the impressive University of Birmingham, where the stunning clock tower rises above a cluster of handsome brick buildings. A handsome, traditional pub in scenic Edgbaston, The Garden House is a perfect spot for relaxing with tasty pub food. Tucked back from the road, behind a picturesque row of grand trees, this is an ideal haven in which to sit down for a leisurely Sunday lunch and a refreshing glass of cask ale. Built in the early-19th century, The Garden House is nestled in Edgbaston, once a rural area outside of Birmingham, but now an attractive corner of this vibrant, historic and handsome West Midlands city. Though little is known of the area’s early history, the name Edgbaston is believed to have been Old English for ‘village of a man called Ecgbald’.

We had a family birthday celebration here on Sunday for 20 people. The service we received was excellent, We were greeted by friendly staff at the bar, Who showed us to our seats. We were informed that our orders will come out separately as the size of the party but we did not have a long wait on our orders the food was all brought out together. Everybody ate together The meals were all enjoyed by all. The service was excellent I would highly recommend

I recently had the pleasure of visiting this pub, and it has quickly become my favorite spot in town. From the moment I walked in, I knew I was in for a treat. The staff deserves special mention for their exceptional service. Friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable, they make you feel right at home. The recommendations from the waitstaff were spot-on, and they were always ready with a smile. Whether you're a fan of classic pub food or more adventurous culinary creations, this pub's menu caters to all tastes. The portions are generous, and the presentation is inviting. I will be returning very soon!

We are a group of 5 friends who meet up for drinks every 3 months or so. This time we decided to include a meal. We chose the Garden House as we have been before and it is easy for us all to get to. We were not disappointed. It was Saturday night at 7pm and the restaurant was very busy, so we were glad that we had booked in advance. Despite being very busy, our drinks arrived soon after we ordered them and our meals not too long after that. Later, we all had deserts which were quite quickly served too. The meals were excellent (particularly recommend the bread & butter pudding from the specials menu) and the beer was good as well. Service was excellent, efficient but unhurried; a special shout out to Theresa who looked after us very well.

We arrived for late lunch at Garden House, The service is good but you need to be notice by the staff when you entered from the front door, limited number of staff and most of the customers are seating at the back. The food is not as good any more…. it used to be good and quality Is worh the money. And they need new sets of pots for sauces, most of them have chipped and few sharp edges.

First time visit to the Garden House this afternoon around 2pm and just had a pint of Birra Moretti while passing by. Found this to be a very warm welcoming place, the background music was just right, lighting not too bright / not too dark and temperature perfect. A calm chilled atmosphere! Seems to be a popular pub / restaurant amongst the older people, but also the younger ones too to have a meal - which noticed orders happily taken from the table to save waiting at the bar. There were a lot of people who looked like were enjoying their meals - all of which looked very tasty! Outside there is a good amount of parking, along with bus stops on both sides of the road in and out of central Birmingham so very well located. Staff - The guy who served me was very helpful, came straight over to the bar when came up, and helped me with using my voucher code towards the drink with no problems at all. Done with a smile and a friendly chat which was much appreciated :) I have only one point to note on improvement, the toilets were clean. But, were quite dark and did not smell as fresh as could be. I'd suggest maybe the air freshener has run out and there being an issue with the some of the lights not being on that could be looked at. There is a good amount of promotional display to raise funds for the Macmillan Cancer Support around the bar - this is a great cause to note and hope you raise lots for the cause. Conclusion: I'd happily return again, and probably for an evening meal too. Thank you for the nice visit.
