About us

We are fortunate to have Celebrity Chef Grant Williams at The West Arms (ITV Britain’s Best Chef Finalist Dec 2011) as a key member of the team. He is passionate about his role as Head Chef and places his love of cooking at The West Arms almost as high as his love for his family. All you have to do is taste one of his meals to feel the love put into them. His beautiful dishes are made utilising locally sourced food such as Lady Kenyon of Greddington’s Home Grown Fruit and Veg; Josh Williams’ Free Range Eggs; Dave Keegan of Llanrhaedr ym Mochant’s Welsh Lamb and Beef and Rosie Davies edible flowers.

The food was passable, nothing special but portions were far too small for the money. Service was poor and the waitress could not answer a single question we asked. The owner just gave us blank stares and glared at us when we complained. Save your money and eat elsewhere. A massive problem dealing with the bill which way overcharged us, another customer nearby said the same had happened with them. Arrogant unfriendly manager. Go anywhere but this dreadful place

Stopped in for a pint whilst out walking. The staff were really accommodating. The open fire was fantastic. Dogs welcome. Well kept cask ale.

I booked a table for Sunday lunch to celebrate my Mum's birthday, received booking confirmation. Our party turned up to find the place shut up and in darkness. Fortunately the most excellent landlady at The Hand was able to accommodate us at short notice. Absolutely appalling custoner service and apparently not the first time this has happened. I would avoid at all costs and visit The Hand instead.

My wife and I drove from Chester to the west arms for a spot if lunch . As I'd worked in the area . And thought it to be a beautiful spot . . However .the dream ends there . . upon arrival we found the place to be very quiet . Ok fair enough . A small party of about 8 sat in the small bar area. . At 1.45 we asked if lunch was still available . Sorry no food . . Totally unfriendly . Ordered one pint of bitter and half a coke . £8.25 . . .never again . My wife got stuck in the ladies toilet with the handle spinning . . A note read . Please use the toilet paper sparingly . Luckily a lady let me wife out . As no phone reception in there. . Sorry landlord . But nice flowers dotted around . But your unfriendly attitude and general demina left us with no option but to drink up and leave . Never to return. We headed over to the tynn y capel in minera ..near Wrexham and had a lovely lunch. . And drinks at more than 25 percent cheaper . . Never Again

Well in advance, we had booked a one night stay at The West Arms on 21/6/23 as we were attending a wedding close by the following day. Another reason for our choice was because we spent our honeymoon there 43 years ago so it was intended to be a trip down memory lane. From the outset the response from the owners was extremely poor. Impossible to get through by phone and took days to respond to queries about the possibility of a late check out. Then a few days before our visit we received a message to say the restaurant would not be open so our dinner reservation was cancelled. We were advised we could eat at The Hand Inn across the road, so booked a table there. Then a couple of days later we got another text ( not even the courtesy of a phone call ) to say the inn was closing for the week. No apology or explanation when my husband rang, owner very offhand , told we could probably book somewhere else local. So we booked in at The Hand. As it turned out The West Arms did us a favour. The Hand was superb, beautiful room with excellent food. And the staff attitude was welcoming and courteous. A tip for the owner of The West Arms - being pretentious and over familiar by immediately calling potential guests by their first names and being pally doesn’t make up for extremely poor treatment of guests.
