About us

HOW IT STARTED

‘The Welly’, as it is lovingly referred to, is the heart of the picturesque village of Lund……and offers a tasteful blend of old and new.

Russell and Sarah purchased the Wellington Inn in August 1995 and embarked on a full renovation/refurbishment project. On 16th October that year the doors to “The Welly” were thrown open to reveal a remarkable transformation. But we didn’t stop there, we are constantly reviewing our business and always have the next in house project in mind that we hope will enhance your visit. We don’t like standing still!

Lovely pub. Lovely people. Great food. We received superb and friendly service for drinks and dining this week. Beef rib. Parfait. Steak. Pork. Already planning my next visit as everything on the menu sounds amazing, definitely getting the cheeses. What a treat to be staying nearby. (Thanks for carrying out the special birthday request, much appreciated) 👍🏻

I actually don't know where to start, we have been visiting the area and after looking around online we thought wow perfect We arrived at 5.30 at the entrance and were told that the restaurant doesn't open until 6pm. No problem, we wait, outside in the beer garden for the half hour, without being offered a drink.. then when they open, they tell us they have no tables and it's a booking service only. Unfortunately nowhere online on their website is this stated, so they just literally showed us the door. So is it strictly just local villagers that have the privilege to eat there? In this day and age we still need to "book" a table in an empty pub?? Wow... Edited post reply from owner: I'm glad everyone on this platform can see and READ how truly unprofessional you are to customers who have a grievance. The tone of anger within your reply is extremely concerning I'm glad I didn't make a complaint in person given your hostile and aggressive complaint online. Although I as a customer was unaware of the wellington pubs opening times a simple "we would love for you to hang on and order a drink with us, have you booked a table with us?" would have been acceptable customer care. Our grievance... Let me simplify it for you since I can't "read": is that when we arrived, your staff didn't inform or indicate that a table needed to be booked, therefore we waited 30mins without a beverage, to be turned away. Like I said your response (please see above) is astoundingly unprofessional. To conclude... I think you rightfully own that one star after that response Karen. It's evident from the time it has taken you to read and reply to my review, your "busy Saturday night" period is simply couldn't accommodate our business. Safe serving Kellie-Ann White ( assertive and well read).

Cold, unwelcoming staff outweighed the cosy pub vibe. I hate to write a negative review, but feel the attitude of the staff should be addressed. My family and I came out for birthday drinks, but I'm sad to say the service was pretty cold and shocking. It was a shame as the food looked delicious, the interior had been done up very well and the vibe amongst customers seemed great. When ordering drinks and looking at menus, it almost seemed as if it was an inconvenience that we were there! No smiles, please, thank yous... Upon our departure, as we said goodbye, we were completely blanked by the 2 staff at the bar, instead receiving a polite 'thank you' from a gentleman sat at a table (I presume landlord/manager?). Such a shame as other reviews are so positive :( I hope this gets addressed!
