About us

This pub stands in the shadow of Manchester Town Hall. The rapid expansion of the city and the ambitions of its civic leaders led to the creation of a municipal palace of unrivalled splendour. Completed in 1877, this civic palace was designed by Alfred Waterhouse, also responsible for several other buildings in the city. Its internal mosaic design incorporates a pattern of bees, symbolic of Manchester’s industry, which is also found on the city’s coat of arms.

Drinks are OK, nothing particularly special. Shame about some of the clientele who clearly can't handle their drink. Atmosphere can get quite rowdy with some louts who cause a nuisance. I wish Wetherspoons had a general no-nonsense attitude to people like this. Staff here are great and helpful. If the atmosphere featured less intolerant behaviour then I could see this being a much better pub.

Dining Experience @ The Waterhouse JD Wetherspoon. . As a chain pub, The Waterhouse JD Wetherspoon is known for its large standardised menu available all day, with good value for money dishes. It's also the only large-scale pub brand to operate during breakfast. . Ambience is cozy and warm. The tight corridors lead into small dining rooms, which are medium-lit. Aging wooden furnishings, faded carpets, and a non-digital feel, lend character. . Service is partially self-service, with ordering and payment over the counter, as the online system doesn't work. Staff will serve orders to your table, but cleaning up is leisurely done, just as well they have ample seats. . Food is low-cost pub grub, most passably edible to above average in quality. Portions are large for individuals, offering good value for money. Prices are affordable, budget about GBP £16 per person. . The Beer Coors Light (GBP £4.18) is a refreshing yet light brew, good only for easy-drinking or the young. . Their rendition of Fish And Chips (GBP £10.82) features a large boneless fillet of lean flaky moist atlantic cod fish, coated in a crisp golden batter. Has a lovely gentle sweet savoury flavour. . I added salt and malt vinegar, for added sour salty kick. The thick cut English potato chips had starchy salty savoury flavour, while the gooey mushy peas had vegetal grassy earthy sweet flavour. Very happy with this.

Vero good place with great atmosphere. It seems to be a place where local people go to have a drink during their pause from works. Very recommended 😋😋

popped in for evening meal as it was near my hotel. Quiet busy but managed to find a table. Food was served quiet quickly and was really tasty. Atmosphere seemed really friendly like everyone was enjoying themselves and relaxing not rowdy. pleasant experience.

You really can’t go wrong with a Wetherspoons! We popped in for further drinks after visiting another bar and easily found a table considering it was a busy Saturday. The building is much bigger than it looks from the outside and toilets are located up some vintage style stairs. If your mobility impaired, I’d choose another Wetherspoons as there is no disabled access inside. I’d return again for cheap drinks and room to chatter!
