Old town pub where you walk straight into the busy bar. Decorated by a giant clock and various musical instruments, the main draw in winter is the lovely log fire
At the rear is a small, simple dining room; on busy food nights this can mean that the bar tables are colonised by reserved signs. The beer garden at the back features occasional marquee-based music events.
Friendly local pub, haven't tried the food yet but looks excellent and I am going to be trying it soon.
We didn't know the area but wanted something to eat. We googled Pubs near Atherstone and the Black Horse came up. When, we drove up I nearly drove on, as from the outside it didn't look too good. Boy am I glad we didn't. We were greeted in the car park by the Landlord and Landlady who were very friendly and informative, making us feel at home straight away. This place was amazing, a small restaurant laid up like a 5 star one would be. Then a cosy les formal Garden Room. The menu had a really good choice for a town centre pub. We both chose the Frank Parker's Sirloin steak, which we requested Blue. When the meals came they were beautifully presented and cooked to perfection and excellent quality. As were the accompanying vegetables For dessert my husband had Eton Mess and I had the Chefs Special of Salted Caramel Cheesecake, both of which were to die for. We are looking forward to eating here again and feel that it is well worth the nearly 80 miles round trip.
Tobias and lyndsey are brilliant have had several excellent meals there today a beautiful special Sunday lunch nothing is too much trouble Tobias is an excellent chef with extremely high standards and lyndsey ensure your whole experience is excellent see you again soon
Food was amazing. And so was the service. Will be going back. The scotch egg was cooked perfectly and tasted amazing. A must try. Trust me you will not be disappointed going here for food. Well done to the new owners
We were staying in Atherstone, but our accommodation did not serve food. Wondering along the High Street, The Black Horse was recommended to us for an evening meal. We entered, and were then shown to the restaurant area of the pub, which was tidy, neat and well presented. The Food, however, was AMAZING..... All of their meat is sourced from a local butcher. I had a Chicken Kebab and my wife had one of the best steaks she has ever had. We had no room for dessert, but an adjoining table seemed very impressed. Also very good value..... As we left, we noticed that they also did breakfasts. That meant that the next morning, we were queuing up to get our fill of bacon, sausage, eggs etc. Again all locally sourced and served in the breakfast area of the pub. We would highly recommend this place as a place to eat.
