Almost everything here was disappointing. The staff couldn’t care less, the food was poorly prepared and generally ‘cheap’, the wait time between courses was unacceptable, wine was not available, toilets definitely need a clean and a spruce up. It’s bad when the shortbread biscuit with the crème brûlée at desert is the best part of the meal. We used to have many a nice meal here a decade ago, thought we’d come back when visiting. Sadly the new management don’t give a hoot and it is reflected in everything. We won’t be coming back (until it changes hands again which we guess won’t be long with the current management and staff)
Had a very good Christmas meal here, tasty & well organised. Only criticism, the room was a bit loud, so conversation was difficult. I think more soft furnishings to deaden the sounds from other tables would have helped 🤔
Have been here in the past and had lovely meals but tonight was a complete disappointment. The turkey roast was so so dry and to be honest a rather small portion. The smallest piece of stuffing I've ever seen and what could only be described as half a small pig in blanket. It felt like a bit of a 'Christmas meal gimmick' to be honest. The staff were all friendly so no complaints there but the food did not come at the same time, Two of our starters randomly came 15 mins before the rest. £80 for two people with a couple of pints each is a lot of money for a very very average roast.
I had a loverly experience here a few days ago. I have a gluten allergy and the food was made from scratch, I couldn’t taste the difference and it didn’t make me ill which is very rare! The atmosphere was lovely and our server Jamie made the whole experience 5 stars, he was friendly, professional and went above and beyond to make sure we felt looked after. Can’t wait to be back!
I've seen quite a few changes at the Walters over the last 2 years and the main is that the food menu has changed to cater more towards the restaurant crowd rather than pub food. Prices have gone up quite a lot since I've been coming here but if it keeps the doors open and the staff employed then that's fine. Staff are generally very friendly and accommodating. Great beer garden(s) and lovely open fires in the winter.
