The Victory and the Hereford Brewery run side by side, providing a local outlet for the beers. This down to earth pub is unusually styled as a galleon and attracts customers from all walks of life, whether for the beer, the sunday lunches, the live music or some pub entertainment.
Unusual pub with the partial reconstruction of a pirate galleon built into the bar! Lovely open fire and great service ... apparently, things get a bit rowdy in the evening.
This pub has forever been one of my favourites. A fantastic themed victory ship pub with ship features to the bar, nets and other naval items scattered around and bonus, they have an on site brewery. So why the 3 star review? At one point the pub had consistent opening times, a good selection of on site brewed (Hereford brewery, previously spinning dog brewery) ales on tap (usually Owd Bull, Aurora Weissbier and HLA) and a few others (including milestone and some local ciders). As time went on, it became very neglected. Opening hours are inconsistent (no idea if it's open or not, you just have to go there and hope it is), broken parts of the pub weren't repaired and even the ales brewed on site were hit and miss (sometimes tasted off/sour). All I can say about it now is I've been there 3 times quite recently on different days at different times and each time the pub wasn't open. It seems now they only open to do the occasional pub quiz and for the skittles/darts team. Such a shame as even though it's slightly away from the town centre, it's a great looking pub with the brewery on site which makes it more than worth a visit (consistent opening hours would be a start). 20/12/2023 - Another star lost. They've now changed hands and have set opening times which is good but seem to have done away with brewery activities opting to serve Wye valley butty, hopfather and a seasonal. What reason do people have to visit there now? It's slightly out of town and now offers the same as the barrels (and many other pubs). I can't see any reason to visit there at all anymore. The brewery should have been a priority as they had their own exclusive ales and with consistent opening times would pull people back in again. Mark my words it will be closed again in 2024, maybe for good next time.
UPDATE: Great news, new owner, very welcoming and they actually open now Old Review: Wonderful decor. I love the boat like bar. Staff are very friendly.
Great Dog friendly pub, good selection of beer and a great quiz on a Tuesday night, well worth a visit, fantastic ship shaped bar.
Excellent service. Very authentic old school place - looks like a ship. We played pool for hours. The bar man is a legend. If you're after a non generic non smelly pub - this is a place to be, no regrets
