United Services Mess, Cardiff

About us

The Mess was founded by Senior NCOs from Maindy Barracks but included in their number, it is pleasing to note, was one T.D. Lucas, a Naval gunnery instructor. The Royal Flying Corps, the Royal Naval Service and the Royal Air Force did not exist at this time. They were admitted later, as was the Merchant Navy.

The object of the founder members was to take the concept of a Services Mess outside the confines of a military base and preserve its unique qualities for themselves and future members. Today service in the Armed Forces is not a prerequisite for membership. Service Mess etiquette, comradeship and entertainment are reflected in U.S.M.

Interesting place, but not wonderful at arrangements when we booked a room & bar staff.

Fantastic atmosphere, Military Style Bar, Excellent Dining, Great Place to have any meeting and perhaps a meal afterwards. Great History top, founded as far back as 1909 after The Boar War.. I did say its a great place with a great historical background. Give The United Services Club a ring to book your meeting and a meal perhaps. I have been a member for over 20 years I haven't regretted a moment.

Used the Mess many times over last fifteen years for business and club meetings. Excellent food by chef and venue has real character and atmosphere. I would definitely recommend it

The minus is the restricted hours. Once you do get in however, there is much to appreciate if you are ex-military. There is a great deal of memorabilia on view.
