we love what we do, hope you do too. A Newcastle pub, venue and B&B.
The Cumberland Arms is a great traditional pub in the heart of the Ouseburn Valley. It has something for everyone – great beer, delicious food, a fantastic place for live music, comedy and theatre. The Cumberland Arms is one of the homes of folk sessions in Newcastle, with a wide range of traditional music and singing to be found in the back bar on most nights.
We offer seven real ale hand pulls and four keg lines rotating exceptional beers. Emphasis is on the fantastic local breweries we have here in the North East whilst still offering a great range of beer from the best breweries across the British Isles. With an award winning reputation for Cider we are always on the lookout for new orchards to add to our ever changing range of six Ciders, Perrys & Pyders all served straight from the tap. Keep an eye out for details of our Beer and Cider festivals and special events.
Cheeseboards and assorted bar snacks served with homemade chutneys and pickles all day, everyday.
Behind the side door you will find a wonderful little gem; four en-suite Bed & Breakfast rooms with south-facing views over the Ouseburn, super king size beds and with a luxurious but relaxed atmosphere it is a perfect place to get away from it all.
Whether you want to get away for a few days, catch a gig, join one of the sessions, have a meal, borrow a book, play a game of scrabble or just fancy a quiet pint sitting by the open fire we hope you will enjoy your visit to The Cumberland Arms.

The very best bar anywhere in the world as full of character with fine wines and ales and music events and sword dancing the night I was there. Spectacular garden full of herbs and with a great view and steps down to other nearby venues. Don't walk passed this pub you'll be missing out big time. Lovely burning hot fire and books and games. Hot drinks also wow they've thought of everything here Paul
This is an iconic place, and long may it continue. Great beer and craik. Lovely in the summertime. Up on hill, looking down on Ouseburn below. Class 👌
A great traditional pub serving mostly local ales with a gig space upstairs. Thoroughly recommend if you're in the area
Well it used to be totally cool but now you've got junior hitlers over policing the place and ensuring folks don't enjoy themselves too much, shame. To repeat another reviewers comments "the band were warm and welcoming but the staff were arrogant and rude", bevis frond detonated tho
Arguably one of the best pubs in the North East. Great laid back atmosphere. Lots of space outside at the front overlooking the Lower Ouseburn valley. Cosy two room inside with real fire in the winter and loads of folk evenings in the other bar. Great small venue at the back/ upstairs. Always a good selection of cask ales and real ciders. All in all a great pub.
