About us

We are a friendly traditional Devonshire Pub, on the Newton Abbot to Totnes Road, with stunning views of the moor from our Courtyard Garden.

The Pub dates back to 1702, formerly a farmhouse it was then licensed in 1703. It is still sympathetic to its authentic heritage, has a wooden floor, oak beams and a cosy log fire! We serve our real ales straight from the casks behind the bar. Our restaurant is set out very traditionally with large fireplaces and log burners. A large collection of shiny brasses and original ornaments can be found amongst the open stone walling, shelves and many nooks around the pub. All this contributes to the warm and cosy ‘olde worlde’ atmosphere where you can while away an afternoon next to a crackling fire.

Our restaurant is on two levels. The rear section formerly a barn, was converted in the early 1990’s.

Sympathetically decorated in keeping with the lower section. The barn section can accommodate larger party’s to a maximum of 25.

We serve fresh homemade food, made by our in-house Chefs and the menu ranges from Steak and Kidney Suet Pudding (for which we are famous), to Steaks and Seafood Pancakes. Our daily Specials often include freshly caught dishes, such as Seabass and Whole Baked Mackerel. We can also accommodate those with a smaller appetite.

We have a large car park at the rear of the building and once parked you walk through our lovely Courtyard Garden to e.

Great food! Some of their dishes have 2 sizes. The smallest size in plenty for most people! Lots of proper homemade choices as well.

Went there for a Christmas Dinner, my daughter order the cheesecake of the Christmas menu and it came out frozen. Roast turkey was lovely, a bit disappointed with 1 pigs in blanket and seasonal veg was sprout carrots and French beans. A friend had breaded camembert and there was no cheese in the middle

The food was amazing. Home made lasagne. We got vouchers to go back too. Nice pint 👌

Tried this place for the first time on Saturday. The restaurant is in the oldest part of the building with its old stone walls, wooden beams and decor to suit. Due to the age of the building the restaurant was a little warm but not stifling. The food was lovely with good sized portions. The staff were attentive and were able to answer any questions we had. Service was prompt even though the restaurant was busy.

Lovely pub on the A381, very friendly and polite staff. Ale from the barrel 😊 Food was very good; 10/10 for the steak. Perfect 👌 Food only served between 12:00-14:00 during week days. Changed hands on 31st Jan 2018. Had thee best steak pie today (September) Really nice 😊
