Context: Ate here one night while in Penzance in Sep-2023. They were busy and we had no reservation so we ended up in the basement room with a few other people, next to the smugglers tunnel. Positives: Warm and welcoming. Good food. Good portions. Super friendly staff. Free wifi. Historic. Negatives: None Summary: Worth a visit
As we were staying in Penzance, thought it would be rude not to pay a visit to one if not thee oldest Pubs in town. Have been a couple of times, one for a meal and again in the evening for a couple of drinks. Friendly staff, great food and vibe within the place. Defo worth a visit when passing.
If you‘re visiting Penzance and searching for a good pub - look no further. The pub has a rich history of over 800 years of existence and was used by pirates and smugglers regularly due to the hidden tunnel exit that leads down to the Harbour (see photo). Besides the great atmosphere the service was friendly and food very delicious (could‘ve used a bit more salt which we added ourselves). All in all - if you want to have a true pub experience you will not be disappointed 👍.
Seemed like a tiny pub but becomes a tardis as you keep walking deeper into it. Lovely little beer garden out back. Cozy and oozes character. Good selection of real ale. Food was outstanding. Priced at the "top end" of pub food lived up to the pricing. Quality fish and chips
A nice pub with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Staff are inviting and friendly, service was all around good. The main food is okay, nothing too special to write to home about but overall good - I felt that the portion of mushy peas was a little small, but the tartare sauce was a nice redeeming and tasty feature. The chocolate dessert was nice, perhaps a little overpowering and on the expensive side (£7.50) for the portion given. Would recommend if you are passing and after some homely pub grub.
