About us

The pub, formerly known as The Trent Navigation and The Navigation Inn, takes its name from Trent Lock. As well as marking the point where the River Trent and River Soar meet with the beginning of the Erewash canal, the lock sits on the border of three counties: Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire.

A country pub oozing rural charm and rustic character, our picturesque surroundings provide the perfect backdrop for savouring the hearty, seasonal pub-food on our menu, and the carefully nurtured cask ales and fine wines gracing our bar.

Whether you are planning dinner with friends or Sunday lunch with family, book a table online and enjoy some quality time with those you love the most.

Stayed over night in campervan in pub car park ( phone ahead to check). Lovely busy pub with good atmosphere. Fires, very dog friendly and welcoming staff. Good food selection which was tasty and good value. Also open for excellent breakfast after a good walk along the river Trent. Really couldn’t fault the experience a lovely stop off.

I think this pub is probably the best it has been in the last thirty years. It has a warm, classy air about it with shabby chic wood finishers throughout. The food is slightly more expensive than the average pub but the location more than makes up for it. We walked down to look at the flood water which you can see has affected the beer garden. When it's dry, the garden and sheltered gazebo are lovely.

Absolutely a gem of a place. We went for a large family meal yesterday. And we were not disappointed. The food was absolutely delicious. It was proper home cooked food. The 2 young server's were great and nothing was too much trouble, even though it was Christmas, their service did not change, it was great. We had prawn cocktail and salt & pepper calamari and they were the best we have ever tasted. For main we had fillet of sea bass and smoked haddock fishcakes. They too were delicious, and very filling. For a small local pub, it was nothing short of 5* cuisine. We will definitely go back again, and very soon.

For the past 6 years, me and my partner have been going here for meals whenever there’s a special occasion. The food is delicious and is served quickly, presented really well too. A warm cosy atmosphere, and romantic with the candles lit. They even send you offers through email once you sign up online & download the app. Today, we got 40% off Mains😄 Only thing I’d say needs improvement is that the music was too loud in the dining area when we went today.
